THE BEST BUDGET CAMERA IN 2024? | CANON M100

Canon EF-M mount had some of my favourite APS-C cameras especially the Canon M6 mark II and Canon M100 - would pick these over the Fujifilm X100V, Ricoh GRIIIX, Fujifilm X-T5, Sony A6700, and Nikon Zfc anyday. Here's an update on a video I did about 2 years ago!

I think this is the perfect travel, hiking and lifestyle camera. I have a Canon R for client work, but I find myself grabbing and using this far more often. The photo quality to portability/size ratio is insane especially with the 22mm.

I have this camera owned since new from 2018, I am a casual user and it has never let me down, I bought it for its size, versatility, portability, ease of use and large sensor. The functions are the same/similar to the bigger DSLR's, so best of both worlds. I also purchased the VILTROX lens adapter for the EF/EF-S lenses and an extra battery. This is a small power house of a camera and well capable most scenarios, its unassuming size hides it impressive performance.

actually this is the perfect lowest budget camera for filming weddings, it shoots better 1080 than Sony's a6000 series, but why film on 1080p and not 4k? 4k files are huge consuming too much space, it causes overheating, need a high performance computer for smooth video editing. I could just use the m100 with viltrox 23mm 1.4 to shoot a whole wedding event with great footage and some colour grading.

I got the M200 and it's been so good for learning the basics and the ability to get into some advance techniques. Not everything needs to be the latest and greatest.

I own a M100 and I believe this camera is very underrated. The quality of the photos is fantastic and its low light performance for photography is not bad at all considering that this was a 300$ camera. I have taken some of my best street photos with this camera and made some great prints as well and I couldn't believe this was all done with such a low budget camera. It may not be a good camera for video (doesnt even support 4k) but for photography this is a beast in a tiny cage 🔥

Bought a half-cage that adds a grip and a Swiss Arca compatible tripod mount. Makes it much more usable.

Having switched from EF and EF-M to the RF series cameras and lenses, I still keep my pocketable obscure white M100. Too bad there will never be an adapter for RF series lenses to EF-M cameras due to the 2mm difference in distance. Not enough space to hang an RF lens from. I find the non L RF series lenses sharpness to be excellent. For my M100, I'll just use the EF adapted and EF-M series lenses. Thanks for the video!

Just bought one of these secondhand/almost new but it came with no lens. I am new to camera technology but can you take a photo without attaching a lens. And I heard you say you use a 22m F2 lens is that the recommended lens for this camera. Help please.

i'm just getting into photography and got myself panasonic lumix gx8...love it so far...but i was only able to afford 1 lens so far...and i got a fixed prime lens! lol so i started to get frustrated needing a wide-angle..or needing to zoom...well anyway...

just so suddenly...an ad for an Canon M100 showed itself to me in facebook..(around the same price as I would buy another lens for my LUMIX) but it comes with two lenses!!! a - Canon 55-200mm f4.5-6.3 and a - Canon 15-45mm f3.5-6.3, ,

so i'm torn if should buy the canon with two lenses or just use the money to buy a new lens for my LUmix...if i don't decided soon...someone will snatch up that canon camera too...but a lumix lenses are just all around...

so i'm so torn!!!

Actually the custom options for the buttons are few and quite useless... I use only the lock auto exposure. For everything else you need the screen, which I don't mind but at least one custom mode button would be great ! I would love one for the magnify function since I mostly use manual lenses with full manual mode

I have owned this camera for years. Barely use it, im not a photographer . Whats your opinion on its very lightly used value as of this year.

I think for the little bit higher price (December 2024 ~$350-$375 vs ~$375-$400 body only on eBay) and sacrificing a SLIGHT increase in size, the EOS M6 (original/MK1) you get significantly better manual control (physical dials and buttons), a bump in ISO performance, more/faster continuous shooting, auto-exposure bracketing, and far superior grip ergonomics. I highly considered an M100 or M200 but very glad I went with the M6. I'm mainly a photo-shooter but the M6's hot shoe and external 3.5mm mic jack I'd think to be a pretty big plus for video shooters. Pretty shocked that the M100 is chiefly identified as a hybrid vlogging camera but has no external mic jack! A bit of a fail there in my book. Having had my hands on an M, M2, and M100 I had an uneasy feeling like I was going to drop it if not for the wrist strap. At the very least, I feel more confident shooting one-handed with the M6 and having overall better, more positive control. Not hating on the M100, just offering my own experience. I think your section on "what I don't like about it" is pretty much fixed with the M6.

This is my main go to camera now. I bought back over a year ago and I hardly travel with my EOS R5. Portability, Versatility & performance. Put a 22mm on it and you are good to go.

I hold the camera with my thumb on the base. my index finger to the left of the mode dial and press shutter with middle finger. When shooting from a low angle I swap around and press shutter with thumb with index finger next to lens and middle finger on base. I love the absolute simplicity and adjust most settings before I leave home depending on the light of the day and then make onscreen adjustments. I don't care that it is not a current model, my M10 is still going strong so my M200 still has at least another 10 years lifespan. My Fuji X-M1 is also going strong at 11 years old
