Proud owner of S5. Thanks for making such videos so that people will be aware about the other capable cameras available in the market, rather than just getting trapped with companies having good marketing.

Finally pulled the trigger on this camera and so happy I did. After using cinema cameras for projects in the past I can honestly say it truly blurs the line between a mirrorless and cinema camera.

I have had my S5 for a few weeks and it staggers me how underrated it is. Literally the only downside I can see is the autofocus, which makes no difference to me since I'm using adapted vintage primes to save more money anyway!

I actually sold my Canon R6 for the S5 with the Ninja V. I don´t know why i didn´t buy the S5 in the first place. The difference between CLog3 and VLog is huge! The S5 is so extremely underrated and it deserves more attention in the filmmaking market!

You might mention the false-colo(u)r exposure tool on the Atomos recorders, which I find even more helpful than the waveform in setting levels.

Wow! Awesome video,
Lots of info in a short amount of time. I've been a professional photographer for 15+yr but never really got into video.. lately every client I have seems to expect video as part of the services and I've been scrambling to catch up on a huge gap in camera knowledge for film. This is exactly what I've been looking for! Thanks from a fellow Torontonian 🇨🇦

I agree with everything you've highlighted for Cinema Quality capture. Especially for professionals like yourself who do so much work in post to deliver an emersive viewing experience, I think for myself I might have some additional criteria that poses questions about the run and gun performance like, Auto Focus, or focus peeking for pulling manually, Frame rates, sound recording, maybe even some performance aspects for shooting sports and wild life, I will concede that when Image quality is the thing that matters most, many of these things are going to take a back seat.

I think most photographers would agree that it would be zero imposition to set up a tripod and go through all the painstaking work of composing at the correct time of day to get a very specific landscape image, understanding that expecting a quick hand held snapshot just isn't always realistic, and so I do respect that some of this image quality in video does come with the burden of file size and purhaps some other sacrifices in a camera under 2K,

I'm just curious what you get for this budget, and maybe what your kit might cost, set up the way we see it in the video,

I've seen the S5 here ( in Canada ) for around $1800 body only, which I happen to think sounds increadibly budget friendly considering what many used cameras cost still today with abysmal video specs.

I often think at some point a dedicated video camera might even start to make sense, is there a video camera you like that might offer the image/File quality you are looking for with purhaps better workflow and performance?

Ok I just read this camera has anamorphic recording settings? I sm trslly curious about this. I know 4x3 is a thing right now that many who've been shooting vertically are returning to but I have to say that wide screen is where it's at for me when it comes to cinema.

I notice how you movie your hands incessantly and dynanically, because you're an ncessantly dynamic guy. At the same time I dynamically move the cursor away from the subscribe button, having not clicked it, whereafter I dynamically swoosh the cursor to the dislke button and instantly and dynamically click the mouse. Now I'm going to take a walk and wave my hands dynamically at people and hope no-one will punch me although it would be richly deserved.

Thanks for the great insight! Curious to know with the S5 are you rocking the kit lens? Or a different one?

6k h.265 at 200mbs it’s the equivalent of h.264 400mbs, up to 15 minute clips internally and a slight crop of about 10% in sensor size

Hi Chris ! How do you do with IBIS with wide angle lens ? I am using the S1 with Zeiss 20mm and I not so happy with the stabilization, there is a lot of wobbling, should I use a gimbal with it ? Thanks!

Thank you for the advice. I’m curious, what’s the difficult part of the Sony Log profile grading? (Not bashing, seriously curious)
