This is an EXCELLENT game. Mostly, the only holdbacks are time to play (which can be substantive), player elimination, and well, the fact that if your gaming crew doesn't have thick skins, you might need to find new friends afterwards! The best way to play in my opinion is online, using correspondence to communicate, with turns being measured in days, so you can log on sometime in the evening, write your correspondence or orders, and check responses the next day. Also, the semi-anonymity of online play makes it so that the "stabbing" doesn't sting quite as much. Anyways, love this game. Thanks for taking us through the rules!

In 11:46 you can move directly from MAO to South coast of Spain, you don't need to move to Western Mediterranean first

I'm new to diplomacy, sounds very cool. Someone recommended a double blind, so you don't know who is which country. How do you do that, with a referee or some online tool?
It has a huge benefit of not starting with rivalries or friendships or known differences in skill.

Is there for instance any free chat that lets you change your username without having to make an account for it?

What would happen in the following situation?
France’s moves: Burgundy supports Munich. Munich moves to Berlin.
Russia’s moves: Bohemia supports Silesia to Munich. Prussia moves to Berlin.
Thanks,

If you move from mid-Atlantic ocean to Brest can you move on the next turn to Picardy (because the water changes to the English Channel)

Do fleets capture land provinces in stage 5 or just armies?

F*** this game. I really mean that in a sincere, non-joking way. Avoid it. Anyone who has ever played Diplomacy knows that it encourages toxic experiences with the potential for lasting scars. "It's like Risk, ...but without dice" is the usual pitch. I'd say it's more like a litmus test to determine the sociopaths in your midst. Fortunately, the game market has come a long way since this negative-experience-generator first manifested, so you have plenty of options (EX: Small World) which will scratch your itch for negotiation & area-control without ruining relationships.
