The natives say that the statues "walked" into place.

It was conceptually demonstrated using two rope teams, and a simple forward-leaning angle on the base of the statue. By applying alternating pressure from each rope team, the crew was able to make the statue waddle forwards.

They would waddle them down the mountain until they reached their final resting point. Then, stonemasons wound cut the bottom flat, as the rope teams let the statue lean ever so slightly forward. When the appropriate base angle was reached, the teams would gently pull the statue all the way upright, and there they now stand.

That is also why you see some of the moai that didn't make it, laying mostly face down, higher up the mountain. The statue got away from them during the "walk" in one way or another, and went down.

It seems that they lacked the technology to stand the stone back upright once it had fallen, so they were forced to leave it in place.

I recommend Thor Heyerdahl's book "Aku-aku" about his long visit to Easter Island, describing how they did the first systematic archeological excevations, and how the locals erected one of the statues under their own power.

What really happened is that natives built those statues and then used trees to move them around. They literally chopped every single tree on that island so, at some point, they run out of them. Eventually they had to move and find another place to live.

Small isolated island, from what I've heard at on point was actually full of trees and alive with activity... I think these statues were made to look like sentinels guarding the island to let people know the island IS occupied and protected.

Its always struck me as odd whenever I see things built by ancient civilisations like the pyramids & These Statues of Easter island, they’re so well preserved and I can’t help but wonder how much better or differently they would’ve looked back then and how our species managed to stay up to the task for a long period of time

I think a Nephalim lived there and was a sculpture. he built those statues to keep himself company. but, because the flood (Durring Noah's time) wiped away all living things, there are no remains of life there.
