David Hume, a Scottish Enlightenment philosopher, said that miracles are a violation of natural laws. Is this true? Find out what Frank has to say about it in this video!

The word "logic" is so often misused. Logic is simply a tool we use to arrive at coherent conclusions from a set of claims or premises or statements. Anything can be logically sound depending on the premises used.

Miracles defy natural law. That's the whole point of them being awesome and "miraculous."

This is how I see miracles. Miracles are like GMs (Game Masters) in a video game, more commonly an MMORPG. The game is developed and the laws and what's possible are established in it by the ones who created it. Now, if the creator enters the video game, i.e. a GM, they can bend the laws of the game as they will. However, the players in the game, cannot bend those laws. They can ask the GM and if the GM wills it, they do. However, the player can't bend those laws. SO God, being the creator of the universe, can easily enter into the world he created, and do something that we would consider a miracle.

Great question with a couple of simple answers:

1. If God made a thing, he could manipulate the thing as much as he wants to. It’s his thing, he owns it.

2. What appears to be “miracles” or magic to us could contain an explanation that we haven’t discovered yet. God could be using laws / forces that we haven’t discovered yet.

So... If I understand Dr. Turek correctly, we should only call those events miracles in which God "overpowers" the laws of nature. But if we don't know all the laws of nature, then how can we classify anything as a miracle?
If something happens today that seems to go against the laws of nature as we currently understand them, but for which we find a natural explanation tomorrow, we can't call that a "miracle", because in fact no laws of nature were "overpowered". We just didn't have enough knowledge about nature at the time when it happened.
I think Dr. Turek may just have defined miracles out of existence.

“Miracles go against natural laws”. Isn’t that exactly the reason why miracles are called that way?

There are nine Laws of Logic, and miracles do not violate any of them.

There is no logical law that is violated by miracles.

I think the issue here is the difference between impossible and supernatural. There are literally impossible things which cannot be done, not by us nor by God, like changing the truth, making 2+2 to become 5 for an example or making Muhammad to be the way to salvation, these are impossible things.
Then there are supernatural things and these are possible things, they are simply beyond our abilities and our comprehension, like changing water into wine or changing a wooden rod into a snake or walking on water.

The difficulty is to distinguish them from each other, which one is the impossible and which one is supernatural.

there is one assumption in the question, it assumes God/angels/the spirit world (or the evil forces) are not constantly intervening and that if they do its 'rare' and goes against 'natural law'
St Paul said 'We wrestle not against flesh and blood but powers and principalities' like we are in a spiritual war

In most cases they do, a miracle can be defined as an event that can not be explained scientifically or by the laws of nature. Miracles can also be defined as the occurrence of timely/favourable events, they may be convenient, but that doesn't mean they can't be explained logically. In a nutshell some miracles go against logic, whilst others don't.

*Does the Laws of Logic have anything to do with the Laws of Physics?*
Yes, the Laws of Physics describe how the Four Major Interactions (a.k.a. Reality) work, and the Laws of Logic describe if our interpretations of events, in Reality, are correct (a.k.a. Truthful).
Both Laws of Physics and Laws of Logic are descriptive laws, not prescriptive laws; meaning they simply describe how reality works and were not prescribed or dictated.
So, if ✨Magic✨exists, is that a violation of the Laws of Logic?
Yes, because with ✨Magic✨ the statement "I have a real living Whale inside my pant's back pocket" can be absolutely true.
✨Magic✨ can do anything, except when ✨Magic✨ can't because ✨Magic✨

I always thought logic meant "probable and possible.

I'm holding a device that allows me to watch an interview in the past, communicate with a person on other side of the world.

Go back 200yrs and I'm literally participating in a miracle.

Miracles are the unlikely based on what a person knows and understands, as well as laws of physics.

All biblical miracles are advanced knowledge applications of physics to achieve isolated unusual occurrences.

A human flying faster than the speed of sound, is the same.

So God the creator of all things and laws, basically has superior knowledge and abilities to perform in the same way I can call Australia.

God reveals the fact that logic is his intrinsic property, and that logic conforms to his will.
