It is just a reminder to be on guard and watch your mouths on social networking sites because it is easy to slip up and do so unintentionally. A soldiers words have to be much more guarded than the average civilian.

@JNT1513 I see your point about the pride of being called a Marine and not a soldier. I'm proud to be joining the Marines even though I'm not in yet. But Livewire is right that Marines are technically soldiers, and when talking about all branches it's easier to say soldiers than to list marines, sailors, airmen, and soldiers. And coming from a Marine, the term is not used as an insult or out of ignorance which is usually what is so offending about it (at least to the Marines I know).

@Jarhead5544 You also have to keep in mind that recruiters will tell you anything they can to make you enlist. They care about you, but they care more about meeting their quota.

@Livewire51200 Haha yeah, I was sitting there like uh... Gunny, adjust course maybe? Navy provides medical. Not the corps. He was bewildered to say the least that at 15 year old knew so much about the corps

@Livewire51200 True, I guess it's just in my area the recruiters put filling a quota before personal relationships, I had a recruiter tell me that if I joined the Corps, I'd be saving people's lives in 12 weeks as a Corpsman... Problem is, The combat medics are Navy, not Marine. I found it very funny that this Gunny was telling me that.

@Livewire51200 soldiers are in the army, Marines are in the Marine Corps

This isnt a new concept. Even in WWII, people were discoraged about talking about any military information, should enemy informants be nearby. Kids were told if asked about anything simply tell them " Im sorry, I cannot say".

But that face at :07 is hysterical. Im not sure why.

Not everything like this is posted because something bad 'happened'...

For YEARS now, in war time, military forces have proactively reminded their troops to keep their pie-suckers CLOSED on operational matters. They even did it when "I" was in during the cold war/peacetime.

This is nothing new... it's just an updated version of very old but very wise pieces of advice, adapted to today's realities.

@Livewire51200 sorry for the confusion sir but I was always told by Marines, that I know, being called a solider is insulting. So I correct people when they call Marines soldiers because the title is earned.

@Livewire51200 Makes sense you gotta understand if shit hits the fan Marines are gunna be the first to help in a huge way. With the help of the Navy there the only military that has that cability in a large scale. Not the individual but the individual has to do the hardest job in the world lives are at stake. When you have a hard life but arnt stupid or non humane like Canadian you understand and respect. For the Canadian military but Marines have a Unconditional Discipline that does work.

@MrCanache Agree with you 110%... but, you have no idea how moronic some people can be. That "ten percent" exists in all sects of life.

@mikeangeconeb But yeah maybe social networking isnt a good idea in a combat zone

@Osmatic173 if you got a death wish put your sidearm on your head and pull the trigger don't drag your unit with you, doing that should be considered treason

Have any of you Marines ever been stationed at an MCB in South Korea?

@JNT1513 Marines may talk a lot of shit, but they still need to know when to have Bearing. I'm not a Marine yet - I'm still just a poolee - but my recruiter teaches us leadership traits, principles, etc., and he always stresses having Bearing when around any civilians. Even as poolees we represent the Marine Corps, and if any of us were to shit talk or make rude comments in a public setting, we would get in trouble for it.
