Since all cars now have screens, it should be mandated that it shows all diagnostic data.

It’s because they don’t want you to know there’s something wrong with your car until it blows up and you have to buy a new one.😂😂😂

My 2006 Dodge Stratus has an autoscan; you just turn on and off the ignition switch 3 times and the codes will be showed where it usually shows your mileage (odometer) or, if you don't have any codes, it would say "done". If I'm not mistaken, this trick applies to other Dodge-Chrysler products.

Gracias señor Scotty Kilmer…no wonder Car makers CEO’ s don’t allow the average Joe to have access to the information I remember going to Autozone and get a key to insert in the port to get codes wow that was old school I guess I remember sitting in my truck with a notebook counting how many times the service engine light flashes 👀🤣😂and writing down the code then go back to Autozone and give them the codes and then they will tell what is wrong and what part is need to be replaced… keep up the great work…!!! Have a great day and a great weekend!!!

It would be nice if they would go back to the basics with automobiles so people can actually fix their own vehicles

I have a 92 Riviera. The built in diagnostic and scanning on it is incredible. It's cryptic but once you know what you're looking at, it gives you dozens of PIDs. Amazing for 30 years ago and ODB1

At Ford advanced light truck design in 2012 we designed an onboard scanner to diagnose problems! It worked great! Upper management shut it down!

I see what you're saying Scotty, but seriously, most cars now have huge touch screens, you already pay out the wahzoo for the car, just make a menu to look up the code atleast.
The stupid thing is, most cars only have 1 or sometimes 2 MILs. If the car only has one light and something small goes bad but doesnt affect the safety or performance of the car, the light comes on, but you'll never know if something serious happens afterward.
My 2020 Isuzu NPR, gasoline has an orange MIL for small issues and a red for serious issues

For many years I've always thought they should put a flip up door above gas tanks in the bed of trucks above the sending units and fuel pumps...

Scotty be making me want to buy the big scan tool he uses, even though I won't fully know how to use it right off the bat, nor fix the problems on my own 😂

Well my 1981 Chevy an early diagnostic port where you can place a screwdriver 🪛 between 2 terminals and it will flash different long and short codes, like Morris. Worked for me got a new O2 sensor. Saved 🤑

Older Nissans have something similar. If you turn the ignition on and off in a timely manner, it would give you the code on the odometer to look up.

I avoid all this "modern technology" crap. I have a 1975 Chevy pick up. No electronics. Fuel pump's mounted on the side of the engine. I just change the oil every 3 to 5 thousand miles. No misfire codes, no crank position sensor errors, no need to remove the dashboard to do a tune up. I'm 57 years old. I'm gonna' have this truck for the rest of my life whether I live 5 more years or 40 more years. Einstein said it best: "keep it simple." Nature itself finds the simplest, easiest way to do everything. The newer cars & trucks are overcomplicated pieces of junk AND they're WAAaaayyYy overpriced. No vehicle is worth 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 or 80 thousand dollars. How can ANYONE afford such prices ? Most people are only grossing 25 to 40 thousand dollars a year. That's a net take home amount of 17 to 27 thousand dollars a year.

Most of the information on 2018 and newer vehicles require dealer diagnostic sign in I'm sorry Scotty tell the people the truth especially Chrysler products and Mercedes

Because it’s all proprietary and ever changing in a planned obsolescence kind of way, instead of being standardized like desktop computers
