People forgetting how important is to have a player who can dictate tempo of a game all by his own. Modric- Toni Kroos duo does the same thing for Madrid for ages. Xavi-Iniesta did for Barca. Scholes did for Man United. You have be extremely technical and intelligent to do this on pitch. Ødegaard is such kind of player. He gives you balance by providing creativity and also doing dirty work. (Something Ozil failed to do) Arteta recognized this with in months after Martin came to Arsenal as loanee. That's why he pressed hierarchy to sign Norwegian because he knew this guy could revamp the whole midfield. CR7 recognized, Pep recognized it. So there has to be something about this guy.

Reality is that being a good player isn't enough these days. You have to still add value to the team when you're not having the most effective game yourself, or you just become a defensive liability, particularly against better opposition. Odegard gives you exceptional work rate and control even if he doesn't score or assist
