Why I Switched out of Aerospace Engineering

Advice from a former Aerospace Engineering student who once did a major in aerospace engineering. In case you're wondering, what is aerospace engineering or is aerospace engineering for me -- this video aims to answer those questions.

Keep in mind that the aerospace major is wonderful and very rewarding, and this video aims to explain how aerospace engineering especially when compared to mechanical engineering can be chosen by students.

My man tried literally three different majors. I accidentally found this channel but I'm glued. Thanks. Your channel has gone a long way to motivate me.

so basically u took the course for what it sounded like and never check what it actually is. very smart of you

I'm actually an Aerospace engineer, and right now I work as a Spacecraft systems engineer at Northdrop Grumman. As a systems engineer I get to work on every part of the space vehicle which is kinda cool. I get to design different components of the spacecraft such as the propulsion nozzles, satellite gyroscope, and rocket cylinder structures. However, I'm more of like a "jack of trades" kind of guy with no expertise which is kinda not good for the long run. Right now I do want to specialize on one aspect of a spacecraft, but I just can't decide lol. I like every single one of those systems lmao.

P.S I do like your take on this video, if you want to become an Aerospace Engineer you need to love mechanics and things you can see with your eyes. I'm good with things I can conceptualize on both of my eyes and my brain, but not with things I cannot see. Electrical engineering is so damn abstract, and I'm horrible with everything abstract lol. Which is why I did so damn bad at my basic circuit classes and introduction to signals. (Screw those disgusting Fourier analysis and Laplace transformations, absolute nightmare for me)

Love this channel. Also very stressed about picking my major

I had to give up on aerospace engineering because I transferred to a school that does not even have an aerospace program - the University of Missouri. I believed that I could not obtain the money to pay that out of state tuition, so I changed my major to mechanical engineering, a field where I could NEVER get a job. Now, I am trying to get the state to start a reciprocity program where Missouri residents could enroll at an out of state university and pay in-state fees. This would work with a nearby state such as Kansas, Oklahoma, or a Big-10 state where their university actually has an A.E. program. I feel as though I was robbed of an opportunity to study the field that I was so enthusiastic about.

Thanks for the key point here that instead of just googling and having a vague idea of a field, try to get information and experience of what really happens in the real world!!!

I want to interact with all those people all over the world who have keen interest in mechanical and aerospace engineering to get to know more about it

Perfect combination is electrical engineering with relation to space (antennas, satellites…).

I have a bachelors in aerospace engineering and masters in space engineering, and I have been jobless since graduation (4 years) . I feel so regretful to study this field. My whole life was destroyed by covid pandemic. I unfortunately graduated into the covid pandemic. I interviewed by some of the companies but failed to land a job. I wish I studied medicine. There is a lot of restrictions in the aerospace industry. If you are a foreigner, you can't simply get a job in this industry. Also, there is lack of job opportunities in aerospace industry for aerospace engineers. They usually hire electrical, mechanical, materials, software and design engineers, not aerospace engineers.

Aerospace never really interested me as much as EE although I do admit a lot of cool things has come out of Aerospace like the SR-71 blackbird (I wonder if they’ll ever make aircrafts that can match or surpass it’s speed 🛩) I also think Aerospace has some of the most weed out classes of any of the Engineering majors making it even more difficult than most of them. Maybe one day when we get better at building rockets 🚀 and travel further in space 🌌 the whole Aerospace field will get lots of demand but as for now I think it’s progressing kinda slowly 🐢 That’s not to say I don’t think there’s any room left for innovation in the field of mechanics or Aerospace it’s just that they’ve already been around for thousands of years. They’re tried and tested fields (whereas EE has been around for only a few centuries) so I find it a bit harder to imagine what mechanics based Engineering fields might bring about in the future 🤔

aaaaggg this is my fear i KNOW i wanna be an engineer but not sure which type i like planes but im not super into them im not one of those people that builds stuff at home and stuff its nice ti see someone that changed their mind so many times and found what they love i hope i do too

It seems like it's really easy to switch ouf of majors😂😂for us it's quite the process..you have to decide wisely I'm advance before u apply for a course

Besides mechanical and aerospace engineering what have you switched till now and what do you really no as of now complete?

Do you think taking on an Aerospace minor as a Mechanical Engineer would be smart? I love mechanics and that side of engineering, so that's why I'm a MechE, but I also love and want to understand aerodynamics more so that I can apply those principles to high performance racing. I'm definitely the naive freshman right now, but a dream job would be some sort of car engineer that does some sort of race engineering, but on top of that is very well versed in aerodynamics. My mind goes right to things like F1 and endurance prototypes, where aerodynamics are a massive part of the success of the car, and that's really interesting to me.

This is the same as Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, 75-90% of the classes are the same.

When you get into aircraft/aerospace black world projects, thats when the magic happens.

Thinking about switching to AE after this semester (my freshman year). Would that year of missed credits be too much to make up for the next three years?

Hello I'm from India i want to do aerospace engineering but in India there are not so many clgs who directly give admission after 12th standard as I failed in jee advanced but I really want to do aerospace engineering can I do after btech/be mechanical engineering also I want to do masters abroad which degree of engineering do they have be or btech?can you tell me ways to do aerospace engineering abroad?
