How to Switch Out of S Mode in Windows 10

Microsoft launched S Mode back in 2017 alongside the original Surface Laptop, promising faster launch times and improved security on all devices. While the idea was good in theory, S Mode was switched to enterprise-only. Switching off S mode isn’t a one-size-fits-all problem; depending on your case, it may only take a couple of clicks or be completely impossible.

You can go back into S Mode if you think you really want to use it. You simply have to restore the computer back to factory reset but there are no guarantees this will work if you have had your laptop for a while and have some corrupted files etc. I notice that one of your commentors said it doesn't work but I've seen others who say it does. Thanks for sharing. This will be the first thing I do when mine arrives.

You can always use regedit under the recovery partition to disable S Mode

It's good enough _in theory_, but [random bunch of expletives] overall it boxes you in for what projects and things you plan to use _your_ PC for. Perhaps ideally they'd have a version where you can "authorize" certain apps....kinda like what they already do anyway. Idk.
They're not happy unless you're not happy with their product.

I think that it may help with security and speed. I also think it's possible they did this so anyone who buys a pc with S mode will only be able to use apps that are in the windows store. Why did they make it so we can not undo it though even with a factory reset. That part doesn't make sense to me
