Even though he is not the best technical singer I think Chris has an X factor which is the sound of his voice itself. It is unique and distinct. He has quite a low speaking voice and yet when he is at the top of his game his highs sound pure. I agree with someone else in comments he did sound better in 2000s, especially his highs.

It is always a good little boost when you are struggling to get things "just right" to know how many professional musicians make mistakes all the time. Of course, the big difference between amateurs and professionals is LOTS of practice (and warm ups too ;) )
