There was one other non-military plane allowed in the air over new york. A Civil Air Patrol Cessna, tail number N9344L, was called to fly and take photographs of the damage to the world trade center. You can see these photos online.

Airnet systems flew their fleet of 35s transporting blood to NYC as well, first two days they were escorted by F16s and F18s until the Lear Jets were given an IFF beacon to fly unescorted. My dad was one of those pilots.

This was a big problem in Alaska, because it happened right during moose season. A lot of people were out hunting in places that you can only get to by airplane. And the airplanes that dropped them off so they can go hunting just never came to pick them up when they were supposed to. They came eventually once the airspace was opened up, but people were left stranded, wondering where in the world their planes were lol😂

Actually there was another aircraft, belonging to the civilian auxiliary of the U. S. Air Force, called Civil Air Patrol, in the air that day. That plane is now in the National Museum of the U. S. Air Force.

It's good that they managed to get the antivenom to Lawrence Van Sertima. It may have taken a bit, but it's good that the FAA allowed this Learjet to fly escorted to New York before he knew about the attacks.
