My dad was scuba diving by himself in Bermuda and came across a huge school of “pretty shiny fish”. He swam around them for a while, came back to the hotel, and asked my mom to help him find out what they were. My dad wasn’t wearing his reading glasses so he very excitedly said to my mom “Hun look this was the pretty shiny fish” while pointing to a barracuda. My dad swam with about 15 barracudas unknowingly, alone, in a foreign country.

Fisherman here! The second you mentioned shiny beads with Barracuda involved I knew immediately where this was going. The amount of times Ive seen people catch legal sized ones just tying a shiny coin to their hook is more than I could count. Ive also seen plenty of new people to the sport wonder why their line is completely shredded at the swivel because they got the shiny metal ones instead of the special painted ones to avoid the issues of barracuda chomping at them and destroying/breaking the line

As soon as I realised it was the beeds drawing them closer, my heart stopped. Barracudas are attracted to shiny objects and veiw it as a food source. I'd of made the water turn brown.

funny enough, IRL Barracuda don't eat clownfish.

they're way too small for them and they typically go after bigger fish.

I majored in biology and even took an educational trip to Hawaii back in high school, so the second you brought up getting beads in your hair, I KNEW that’s where the story was going. Barracudas and sharks are attracted to shiny objects (and surfers on their surfboards) bc it resembles characteristics of animals in their diet.
