How To Whistle in 3 EASY Steps!

Whistling is a great thing to know how to do as a musician and singer. Even when your voice is tired your lips can still whistle. It's also a great way to work out potential instrumental solos and harmony parts over chords.

I've always wanted to be able to whistle, but finally decided I wouldn't stop trying till I learned. What I discovered is that as long as you adjust three things ...your lips, tongue placement, and amount of air everyone can learn to whistle. I've never had any problems whistling but when I hold my tongue the way you're showing, whistled notes kinda get choked or hard to tune due to the tension. Try the following:

First of all, keep your lips moist - if they're too dry it'll kill the sound. Lips, cheeks and jaw position looks perfect. But instead of positioning your tongue like a cat's back, flatten the sides of your tongue and lean them on your upper molars as if you would try to bite them off. Pretty much the opposite of how you sing since it would totally kill the resonance. Then just make a "K" sound to get the hang of it (not too much air pressure or it will choke).
The amount of pressure you use to push your tongue against your teeth will be pretty much your only mechanism of affecting the pitch.

Another technique to make very sharp/piercing whistles: Make a "cat's back" by pushing the tip of your tongue against your lower 2 front teeth and push the tongue forward so it will touch the front part of your hard palate. Then blow "aroud your tongue" so your cheeks inflate. It's a little tricky to figure out how much air pressure (quite a lot actually) and muscle tension (cheeks a little - kinda as a counter-weight, lips almost none, tongue just so much that you touch your hard palate slightly) you need but once you got the hang of it, you can use it to annoy the sh*t out of people :D

Good job. It's almost 20 years that I'm trying to whistle like Shadmehr Aghili in one of his songs named Pare Parvaz. But, unfortunately it's deadly hard. I think I can whistle with that melody if I try another 20 years.
