InPresence 0097 Requirements for Psychic Training

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he discusses requirements for those who might wish to participate in an ongoing, online program of psychic training. A good start is to have some basis for suspecting that one has natural psi talent. Another requirement is the willingness to be open, with the group, about deep inner experiences -- and even personal conflicts. Jeff is interested in inaugurating such a program.

In the Remote viewing classes I have taken, people who had already come in with previous identifications of themselves as "psychic" or currently engaged in other psychic behavior/practices did not do as well because they were "mixing modalities." In other words, RV has a set framework to follow and if you veer off track it doesn't work as well. Those of us who came with no preconceptions of what would happen and followed instructions were more successful. The instructor did advise people to "check their other experiences and beliefs at the door" which I think is good advice for people new to structured RV protocols.

With all due respect to your efforts and good intents in propagating knowledge & awarness, to me, is getting itchy behind my years at the hearing of today's word "talent" and in this regard, of human's dormant abilities, I do not think that they should be exchanged in groups, cults or pretentional "exceptional" gatherings, per se... let alone, in exchange for rewardings, but remained & reminded on an each's personal inner most space of contact.
Ofcourse, exchanging those experiences on open sources platforms is always welcome! Never a must.

I am amongst them. Here I am. My goal is to develop psychic abilities toward more long term, practical applications. I am now in my 50's, I've had many instances of precognition and I have had powerful and pertinent dreams sporadically over the years. It is not something I can readily wield, but there it is when it does happen. I have been a musician since I was very young and I was a computer programmer and an analyst in the field of cryptology as a young adult. I have displayed a mix of the artistic and linear, logical methods. Perhaps this is a good indicator toward Psi capabilities. My friends and family have witnessed my tendency to be intuitive and insightful. It has not been tested, but I am certain I've had some personal experiences with Psi abiliities.

After I bought your Ted Owens collection I edited down the training audio to take out everything not directly related and made a training file which I am only just now beginning to really explore. It took me several months to consider what I wanted to get out of it and I am really enjoying it. I would encourage anyone reading this to get it. This is an exciting offer.

Having seen a lot of the history of psi research, I reiterate that I don't think we need to prove whether or not psi is possible. I also imagine it is true that talent for psi is like any other talent, and it is the allowance and facilitation of the skill within oneself that is more important for ultimate success than is native talent. For me, the biggest issue seems to be what we do with the skills that we develop. Yes, we can build a group that focuses on the process of developing psi, but then what do we do with it once it is developed?
Most of the experiences that I have had that might be considered psi-like have been related to personal relationships and small, immediate situations (like foreseeing problems in traffic or feeling that I have mentally forestalled an accident in front of me) . However, there have been a lot of images and scenes that pop into my awareness that I have no explanation for. For example: When I lived in New Zealand, I used to get images of places, like street corners in Albuquerque - often places that I had rarely or never been, but that I _knew_ the location of. Usually, there was no hint as to what was going on there, but it was as though I was suddenly looking through someone else's eyes. Also, I have sometimes been in social situations talking to people about issues in general (like suicide, for instance), only to find out later that the person I was talking to had the issue on his mind. I would be interested in knowing more about these phenomena, what they might mean, and whether there is any point in trying to make them happen more (for what reason?).
I posted a link yesterday to a talk that Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev gave about the yugas, in which he stated that our travel about the center of the galaxy determines our ability to communicate with each other. When we are closer to the "central sun", supposedly, we naturally become more telepathic. If that is true, then we must be getting more interested in the topic because it is becoming more relevant. It seems to me that the issue is still what we are communicating to each other and what our intentions are for ourselves and the planet (at least).

Genuine curiosity and true open mindedness (my opinion, for what it's worth) seem like good traits for this activity. I'm going to give a personal example. In the '90s we visited Cayce's A.R.E. in Virginia. The tour included what amounted to a remote viewing exercise. Not too remote, we were each given a large manila envelope and asked to draw what we saw inside. What I saw was non-sense; the images did not fit. But, I was open minded and drew (badly, my drawing skills are miserable) what I 'saw.' When I opened the envelope, it contained a picture from a magazine and half of what I 'saw' made sense. The shocker came when I turned the sheet over. The rest of what I saw was in the picture on the back of the page. My mind saw non-sense because it saw a superimposition of one image on the other. That was really something. It also seems to be an example of what some of the remote viewers describe as a sort of beginners luck. I haven't tried it since, but it was really cool. One family member, who over analyzes things, did miserably, by the way. I suspect that he tried to make sense of what he saw.

I’ve been following you for years— before the web. Imagine that. I had to order vhs tapes of your shows from the library, had a dedicated notebook just for the series, read the books of the authors and lecturers. You have earned my trust and I would be interested in training. My experiences of psychic knowledge have all been related to a powerful human love. It seems to work when there is love and an urge to alleviate suffering. When greed and a longing for power over others arise, the access seems cut off.

It would be wonderful for you to begin training folks to harness their intuitive abilities: Suzanne Geisemann has an extraordinary class, btw, for mediumship and I also love what Mark Pitstick's been sharing about the reality of the afterlife and how nearly everyone can "reach out and almost touch" the other side...

Dr. Mishlove, I love your program New Thinking and InPrescence. I have been following your work since the 90's (fuzzy on the years) when you would give presentations at the Philosophical Research Society where I continue to participate in their lectures and classes. I so wish you would consider coming back to PRS. This world of PSI training is littered with watered down trainings that offer little in terms of wisdom and knowledge and end up being packaged more like a popular-culture, self-help seminar than something with profound substance. I imagine it takes a lifetime (or many) to fully grasp the subjects in your programs but taking any kind of instruction from someone such as yourself, with your vast knowledge and experience, would be absolutley amazing. I wholeheartedly support your idea and would love to participate. Please tell us how! I was just thinking to myself, (no lie) I would love to have you as a teacher and then 2 days later this video pops up. Thank you so much for the work that you do here of offering so much wisdom to the seekers among us and of giving so much of yourself to this community.
