What is ESP?

In this episode, I answer questions: What is ESP? and Is ESP Real? I discuss telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition as parts of ESP abilities. I also briefly discuss psychokinesis (telekinesis). I take a light-hearted and fun approach looking at what is studied by parapsychologists. Toward the end of the episode I demonstrate how you can use ESP or other psi abilities.

Hey so in that experiment which your talking about with the cards. Statistics where used and when a participant got over the statistical average chance (of 5) it was seen by some as unusual and unlikely but within the range of statistical chance and by others as an indication of esp.
The use of mathematics to guess cards would not have come into play because these experiments where conducted in seperate rooms, and in some instances in separate parts of the country where participants would not have known what appeared before.
Some participants where found to regularly get slightly over the statistical chance more so than some other individuals. Incidentally it was reported that those participants who tipped the statistical norm were described as having higher levels of enthusiasm and belief in the experiment. Another finding was that at the beginning of the experiments while enthusiasm was high participants had higher hits; and while enthusiasm dropped off it went down. However these descriptions of personality and enthusiasm are merely anecdotal and not easily scientifically quantifiable- therefore to the scientist may mean little, but to an ESP enthusiast indicates a lot! Serious question: I suffered a brachial plexus injury in my right arm 25 years ago and I have become left dominant, after being VERY right dominant, would the workings of my brain have changed? I am certainly a different person than I was, but that's age 50 compared to age 25, not a fair comparison.

This was awesome!!! I used to be a believer in everything ESP related, but have since learned that these things aren't replicable... The "hits" I would attribute to psychics & the like could've easily come from cold readings & then enters confirmation bias when ignoring the misses!!! Thank you for another amazing video!!

A member from management approached me today telling me my ESP is outstanding i just said thanks and thought it was something work related regarding targets lol thats why i came here. Im highly intuitive and an empath so not suprising this resonates. And by the manager aproaching me i have no idea why he mentioned it because 1 i never see him or any other member from his team and they have nothing to do with the department i work in. 2 we all work on rotating shifts and are only identified by staff numbers to them unless they know us on a personal level ir work alongside. I predicted we were having a fire drill and told no1 2hrs later alarms go off and because no1 reacted i thought it was something else. Then my own boss came downstairs and said to everyone it was only a fire drill why did no1 evacuate lol is this something related to ESP? be interested to know more and ask that team member why he felt the urge to tell me that....curious now🤔ive had a few occasions overall possibly more and i also have premonitions too.

I love the use of logic. Wouldn't it be nice if either believers or self-styled skeptics employed it? Believers can indeed interpret dubious connections into perceived patterns to support theirs beliefs -- just as skeptics can ignore relevant patterns or data to support their beliefs. Extraordinary claims and all that nonsense. Where I lose my sense of humor is when one or the other side hints or even claims either moral and/or intellectual superiority in the form of being more "reasoned" or logical in their thinking process. Utilizing the science of logic through applying the lens of the logical fallacies I see the same exact coin, just two different sides exerting the same force of bias, though the appearance of the intentional use of the fallacies in their argumentation generally falls upon professional skeptics, since they claim the mantle of science as their supposed defense.

Telekinesis/psychokinesis is not perception but manipulation. Much like moving and touching are two completely different things.

Coincidences are all about chance. To prove that this is mere coincidence and not a demonstration of precognition or telepathy, the result should be at chance level.

In case of Zener cards, the chance level of guessing the correct card is 1/5 or 20%.

Quantum physics is often a way for paranormal believers to try to convince folks they are legit, but this relies mostly upon the fact that QP is very difficult to understand. Deepak Chopra uses this word wayyyy too liberally.

You don't approach this subject without bias, I would have appreciated less snark. Also, use the right terminology at least - astrologers have nothing to do with ESP? I'm not currently a "believer", but I think to approach any subject scientifically, you should leave your bias and derision at the door.
