Testing out Haiku OS - Free & Open Source BeOS remake

Today I take a look at Haiku an open source & free remake of BeOS, an operating system made by Be, Inc. which was later acquired by Palm, Inc. After the acquisition and subsequent announcement of discontinuation, the openBeOS project was announced, which was renamed haiku after a cease and desist from Palm, Inc.

BeOS was a revolutionary operating system at the time that almost was bought out by apple and became Mac OS X. While it is not unix like, it is unix compatible and is built on a similar philosophy. It is one of a few free & open source operating systems that are not based on FreeBSD or Linux code.

Doesn't look like you ever figured it out, but the global menu ("start menu"), search function, settings, etc. are all accessible by clicking the leaf button in the top-right corner. You should really take a look at the quick tour, it would have solved a lot of your issues instantly.

elementary os is kind of like what Haiku OS could be today. The latter still doesn’t doesn’t have vm tool support, which is a shame. It should be easy to find apps like in the eos application wingpanel and Haiku OS would benefit from having a dock to hold running applications. The interface is very dated and bringing it forward needs to be done.
