the splendid screen is often used for the extra length, slightly better control, and damage output. it tends to be my standard shield due to how reliable it is

"do people still use this even" yes, it's arguably pure demoknight's best shield. leagues better than the targe with demoknight. increased charge recharge rate is always useful, and the impact damage is really strong

Splendid screen at 4+ heads let's you hit the Heavy and combo him with the crit swing when timed right. It's nothing to scoff at
