I have watched this more than two dozen times and each time I am even more emotionally overwhelmed by this performance. I have studied, performed, and listened to Beethoven music for almost 50 years and, without a doubt, this is the most beautiful performance of this symphony, the greatest ever written, that I have ever watched or listened to This must have been a magical night for these musicians for as I watch it over and over again I can see and feel the emotion and intensity they display throughout the entire performance. The orchestra and director were one. I truly believe that this is exactly how Beethoven intended this masterpiece to be played.

Amazing performance. Many years ago I had the luck to attend a Chung's direction of the 9th Symphony in Florence and it was really outstanding and touching.

I'd love to see someone do a split screen video of these performances. One camera focused on the conductor, one on the orchestra. There are times when the visual aspects are as incredibly moving as the music itself. I'm absolutely certain we missed some great shots here. The First Impassionata, a rendition of Beethoven's 3rd (the Eroica) Symphony"???? Might we start naming great performances????

I am sure Beethoven heard Mozart's E flat symphony....same key, same triple time, similar main theme, same rhythmic figure (quaver, two semiquavers) at same place in exposition. And the 39th is Mozart's greatest symphony too, in my opinion.
