If getting expelled from Hogwarts earns your wand getting snapped in two and a lifetime ban from ever using magic legally again, like what happened to Hagrid, then the Ministry is full of shit. Especially since everyone who’s ever been convicted and sent to Azkaban got their original wands back. Hell, even Sirius got his original wand back, and he straight up broke out of Azkaban disguised as a dog. Igor Karkaroff was a death eater who got released after snitching out his homies, and he got his wand back, plus went on to become a headmaster of another wizarding school.

Clearly, the magical community has its priorities in the magical shitter when convicted dark wizards can get a clean slate and their wands back after casting unforgivable curses, but a 3rd year student who was blamed for their pet accidentally killing a student gets a lifetime ban from using magic, under pain of death or earning a life sentence in Azkaban.

I always love how you are able to ask these questions great content last night while reading prisoners of azkaban I wondered how Sirius had not gotten his wand back bcs he used Ron's wand in the shrieking shack I guess it is snapped or maybe kept by the ministry and bellatrix got hers after voldy took over the ministry

One thing I would think, is that if some are stored in the ministry, some Death Eaters such as Malfoy could have definitely taken them.

My guess is that malfoys and other death eaters either took the wands or forced it to stay at the ministry instead of being destroyed using his political influence which then was retrieved when needed. Also hagrids wand was destroyed when expelled from school. Did the books say they do that to all criminals or just to those who do not finish school? Harry had his wand threatened but i thought that was for simply violating the laws before finishing school and after finishing school his wand would be left alone.

I don't think Sirius could get his original wand back or didn't know where it was stored
Lucuys Malfoy is a good friend of the ministers
It wouldn't be too hard for him to convince the minister to let the upstanding and concerned member of society to destroy the wands.
Wands could also be buried with their owners and hence the wands would be kept.

There was definitely corruption at play when the pureblood maniacs get their wands maintained, but Hagrid with his near-zero family connections and half-breed status gets his wand snapped 😢

They probably stored the wands then the death eaters stole the wands back with help from the Slytherins working at the ministry

Because J.K.Rowling didn't make a world that actually works or makes sense beyond the very surface levels. It's a wonderfully charming world and an excellent series but the actual world building itself is mediocre at best as she never really thought about how her world would work and even holding a modicum of logic to it starts it crumbling away

I think Hagrid’s wand was destroyed, because he hadn’t qualified as a wizard, yet he was still in school but Belatrix wand wasn’t destroyed because she was a qualified witch and as well, Hagrid‘s wand wasn’t used for the crime that he was convicted of. Therefore, it would not have needed to be kept as evidence. Whereas Belatrix wand was used for the crimes that she was convicted for. just my thought.

My theory is that they hid or left their ones were they got captured and then someone grabbed their wands and kept them when they got out and the reason why hagrid's blond got broke and the prisoner's wounds didn't is because there's a possibility of the prisoners getting

Why didn't they use that spell on Sirius Black's wand? It would've showed the Ministry that he didn't kill Peter Pettigrew and the muggles nor did he sold out the Potters's location to Voldemort. Another piece of evidence that would inform the Ministry that Pettigrew is still alive is the Marauder's map. I think Cornelius Fudge knew that Sirius Black was innocent but he still locked him up in Azkaban to cover up his own mistakes just like how he was covering up reports of Voldemort's return.
