I tried this back in the 90s, i had an old 86 Ford Ranger (4 cylinder), and i measured by miles. Fuel light came on, and i started the odometer back to 0 traveling miles. I made it about 17 miles before it shut off. It really depends on the size engine you have and what fuel you're running.

If you're trying this in Germany, make sure you're not on the Autobahn. You get a heavy fine if you run out of gas there.

One time I was in the car with my dad. At the time he owned a 2013 Honda Civic and I could see how long it was till empty. At one point I saw 0 miles to empty, but the car was still going, so I assumed that meant the actual miles till empty had just gone below 1. Fortunately there was a gas station nearby. I’m just glad you had a carton of gasoline in the trunk.

Just for your information, it’s really a bad idea to run a fuel pump to empty. When the pump runs dry is when it takes damage so you’re risking blowing your fuel pump.

If you guys are wondering how did he make it far it’s cause he has a Hybrid Honda that has a battery pack, it’s a Honda Insight and if you run your fuel pump till empty then goodbye fuel pump since it’s forcibly pulling fuel from the bottom of the tank which is bad
