His PC keeps shutting down... here is why

It is INCREDIBLY important to keep your PC clean. Dust build up is the leading cause to PC death. Dust can become conductive which can lead to bigger issues. KEEP YOUR PC CLEAN! In this video it is suspected that the dust may have been causing the internal circuit protection in the PSU to fault which is why it would randomly shut off, and in my case, wouldn't turn on at all.

maybe your friend was just to lazy and wanted you to clean it instead.

+JayzTwoCents @ 7:05 you were not able to get into setup because the function key was locked on, so instead of f1 you were hitting the LED on/off switch.

You haven't seen shit until a family full of smokers and several pets bring their computer in for repairs.

I like how Amazon reuses links since your duster link goes to an Apple Watch charger now.

You sort of mentioned it, although not explicitly, but this computer was this filthy because the owner is a smoker. I've cleaned out a lot of used computers and computers for family and friends, and this PC had two strong indicators that it lived with a smoker: A) The dust on the radiator was clearly a brownish color, not grey, and B) The yellowing on that white 200mm fan. I wouldn't be surprised to find out this PC reeked of cigarette smoke.

I'm not one to judge people for smoking, that's their business, but it does go to show that PC owners who smoke need to take extra care if they want to protect the longevity of their PCs.

This is why I clean my PC at least once a month. Take care of your gear, and your gear takes care of you.

As long as you have dust filters and keep a positive pressure inside of your case, dust isn't really much of an issue. My computer has been running for years and all I ever have to clean is my dust filter. All computers should have dust filters. I don't understand why it's not a standard feature nowadays.

I would love to see you do a series on just this, watching your process what the issue could be is really interesting.

Here's a quick 14 minute video to fix your broken pc. Doctors hate him.

Commenting at 2:15, so this may get answered during the video.

You installed a GPU into this gentleman's computer without cleaning it out for him first? Typically I always clean anyone's (friend/family/friend of friend) computer before I do any work to it. Usually always my first step.

My brother Rob who built several PCs for me has always instructed me to keep the inside of my computer clean but didn’t follow his advice. I never considered dust a serious threat until today when I realized thanks to your video (and my brothers urging to look inside the machine) that it’s the reason it has been shutting down every 30 minutes or so. I have needed to reset the power switch every time. Thoroughly cleaning it inside and out, pretty sure that’s going to fix the problem. It was shutting down when the CPU hit more than 80°C.

7:05 The "FN" key on your CM Storm Ultimate keyboard is toggled on! :D That is why the F1 didn't work and it only turned on/off backlight. That's how the keyboard works, everything is inside, no drivers needed. I know cause I have one. :D

Fun false positive for the CPU fan error: the fan may spin up at low enough revs that the mobo doesn't detect it. Example: Scythe Mugen 2 and its 120 mm fan that spins up at roughly 200 rpm.

Use the canned air and a vacuum cleaner simultaneously.

I just cleaned out the dust in my pc with compressed air for the first time in 3 years. Dust wasn't too bad because I don't have pets etc. but my PC is now entirely silent and my temps have gone down a bit, not as dramatic as this result but it still feels great

I'd rather see you pull the dust off the radiator, etc., with a vac rather than blowing it into fins and crevices.
When vacuuming, use a flashlight and go slow, using your fingertips to shield the tip of the crevice nozzle
from direct contact with your equipment.

My buddy had a PC that wouldn't start or do anything. All I had to do was clean it and it started up just fine. PSU was completely clogged with dust.

Clean your PCs new enthusiasts!! It is very important.

Someone who lets that happen to their PC shouldn't be allowed to have a 1080.
