Brave astromech droid R2-D2 and his counterpart C-3PO embark on a vital mission for the Rebellion! Carrying the stolen Death Star plans given to him by Princess Leia, R2-D2 must survive a run-in with Jawas on Tatooine, find Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, and hitch a ride aboard the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo and Chewbacca to eventually get the information back to the Rebel Alliance.

Who is R2-D2?
Long before he helped the Rebel Alliance, R2-D2 helped Padmé Amidala by repairing the ship during her escape from Naboo as she, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan Kenobi tried to get to Coruscant. In a twist of fate, their transport ended up on Tatooine where they encountered a young boy powerful in the Force, Anakin Skywalker. As he grew older, Anakin would be trained in the ways of the Jedi by Obi-Wan, and R2-D2 and C-3PO would become vital helpers trusted with Anakin Skywalker's deepest secrets. R2, as he was known to his friends, was just as helpful on diplomatic missions as he was on the battlefield against battle droids, or in a space battle helping to operate an X-wing or other starfighter. When the Clone Wars were over and Anakin Skywalker was lost, R2 would go on to serve the Rebel Alliance as a loyal astromech entrusted with some of the most vital information to the Rebellion and the galaxy at large. When the rebels stole the Death Star plans, it was R2 who carried them in his memory banks to get them safely back into the hands of the rebels on Yavin IV. It was R2 who flew with Luke Skywalker in the Battle of Yavin, helping him to navigate his X-wing fighter to destroy the Death Star. It was R2 who helped Luke Skywalker get to Dagobah to find Jedi Master Yoda and begin his training to better sue the Force and avoid falling to the dark side. And it was R2 who carried Luke's lightsaber into Jabba's palace during the rescue of Han Solo, allowing his friend and master to have access to his Jedi weapon.
In the time of the First Order, R2-D2 helped the Resistance, serving by Leia Organa's side and carrying part of the map that, when combined with a map hidden in the droid BB-8, led Chewbacca and Rey to Luke Skywalker, who was living in exile. On Ahch-To, R2 was reunited with his old friend, where he tried to convince him to help the Resistance in what Luke called a cheap move, playing back the very same pleading message of Princess Leia from many years before.
R2-D2's story is a key element in the Skywalker saga, a heroic droid who served the Republic during the struggle with the Separatists, aided Jedi Knights like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker at the time of the Clone Wars, and went on to help both the Rebel Alliance and later the Resistance.
In the end, R2-D2 is one of Star Wars' greatest heroes. You can see R2-D2 in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Rebels.
