It's interesting seeing the sentimental side of Vader. It's not out of character considering how his first battle with Luke affected him.

Of course he would be sentimental of 3PO... don't forget that when he and Padme got married, they couldn't use rings because they kept their marriage secret. So instead, they exchanged droids. Padme gave Anakin R2 and Anakin gave her 3PO. C-3PO is technically his dead wife's wedding ring.😮
