In this quick video I will show you how to convert Sony Raw Files that won't import to Lightroom or whatever program you are using into a file that will work until the program you are using updates to support the raw files. Basically you convert the raw files to Jpegs or Tiff's using Sony's Imaging Software as a work around...

*sigh of relief* thank god for your video! I have a wedding to shoot in a couple of days, got my A7IV yesterday and this exact problem happened when I tried to import some fun tester shots. i died a little inside when this error message came up. Thought I would have to use my old camera to shoot the wedding. Thank you so much for the well explained video and the save!

Love you Long time Jay! This is a MAJOR move for this a7rii owner over here. I ended up just using Sony image, which I already had on my Mac Pro, to resize and skipped Lightroom entirely. But this was a major key alert fam, appreciate u from this side ya heard!

Thanks, you can batch export tiff's straight to a folder then open in lightroom.

When I got my A7RIII it was not yet recognized by LR. The way I made LR import the Sony ARW files (without any conversion) was to use a tool called exiftool, which can be downloaded and installed on Mac. Then, you can run the tool against the photos in a folder on your Mac, substituting a "known" camera for the new one. In my case, I changed the exif data to use Sony model ILCE-7RM2, which was the A7RII that LR knew about. This was temporary until LR was updated. Here's the string I used with the exiftool: "exiftool -sonymodelid="ILCE-7RM2" -ext ARW -r".

Hi thanks for this, so is there any point in shooting raw if you are just gonna convert it to jpeg or should you just shoot in jpeg format?

I have uploaded the photos from my Sony ZV-E10 to my external drive on my Macbook Pro and the thumbnail display only shows “ARW” and not the photo. I can edit in Photoshop but only then do I get to see which picture I am editing. How do I get to see the photo prior to editing?
