My 5 favorite IEMs prove I'm biased

We all have our biases, and that's not a bad thing. But it's good to recognize them. I recently realized a couple of my hidden biases as an audiophile. This is my confession.

You cracked me when you said that the IE 600 had 600 armature drivers 🤣

I watched a lot of reviewers and still do, I kind of slept on your reviews until I a year ago when realized how great you are at explaining sound to "practicing audiophiles" who cant buy every iem. You're the goat man. Keep it up. You put me on to the HEXA. And I love that sound. Cheers.

Something that has always stuck with me is videogamedunkey saying something along the lines of: the value of a critic's voice lies within its consistency.
While he was talking about game critics, the statement totally holds for other reviewers too – biases are human and totally fine as long as they're properly communicated.
Imagine a reviewer that has the literal opposite taste of you – everything they review highly, you hate. As long as you know that, you can still make accurate buying decisions based on that critic's opinion – whatever they hate, you check out.

Thanks for sharing this information. This helps a lot with understanding how your reviews should be interpreted.

I was definitely aware of your sound signature bias, that's the main reason I'm here, since it's also my preferred sound signature. Wasn't aware of your preference for BAs, but I guess it makes sense looking at the preferred sound sig.

Great vid. You’re the reason that pushed me over the edge to go for the Meteors back then while researching. May be my favorite set.

Interesting to see your preference being almost all BAs. Was surprised to realize that this basshead’s top 5 are all unique from each other. Meteors (all BA), Bravado mkII (Tribrid), Scarlet Mini (Hybrid), Legato (2DD), Rinko (DD/mini planar). My next may be different as well, the Planar Timeless 2 (if released soon and has the elevated bass rumored). Cheers Mark

Always enjoy your videos As an older audiophile I noticed that my sound signature changed with the years.

My start to the hobby was bright monitors (love my Sony's) and later iems like Moondrop SSR and Softears Volume have only continued to confirm this bias. I've always enjoyed your vids because your opinions tend be be relatively in line with mine and above all, you're consistent in your preferences.

Great video and great title 😂 had to click immediately when I saw it

One of the things holding me back from the $250+ range is not having a way to demo them without traveling to a show. Glad you still review the cheap stuff too 😉

Psychology definitely has been a part of the enthusiast market for as long as it has existed, and you can't have psychology without biases. It's a world of preferences and I think the variety of reviewers with their own biases gives finnicky consumers like me a new perspective into the things I'm interested in buying.

Bless you and your Squig site because I've found my own reference curve because of it. Cheers!

I recently started looking into BA sets. I followed your recommendations for the Hexa and Chopin (oh my, the Chopon). They're easily my favorite two for most genres. I am not quite in the price range of the sets you mentioned, though. But i know what to aim for since our tastes are similar.

great video and point, we are all biased for sure, but some of our biases turns out to be a bit similar 🤣

Biased? If anything, this proved that you're a balanced reviewer. Balanced armature reviewer at the very least.

New goal in life:

-Create an iem with 600 BA's on each side and give it to Mark.

I'm just happy to see the S8, as its also my favorite IEM but often gets overlooked IMO!

You helped push me over the edge to finally spend that much on the S8's. I need to try more, but my bias is bang-for-the-buck, and tight resolution. It was the same in my excessive car audio days. I'm willing to put up with the EQ for analytical listening now.

Granted the tuning is pretty unacceptable out of the box. But my listening is largely vocal-heavy EDM plus ridiculously muddy metal.

If nothing else, I've been very happy with them and I think they've got a few more years in them, until there's another seriously compelling IEM for me.

We're all biased, and I picked up a long time ago that your bias was counter to mine, I am more balanced warm you're more neutral bright... I still always valued your opinion and reviews of IEMs but would go in knowing our differences.
