Bird Escapes out of his own Cage!

My parakeet was able to escape from this small cage. Again, this is not where we actually keep our budgies and this video was made to demonstrate the intelligence of budgies and not to torture them in any form of way.

Just to make this clear WE DO NOT KEEP THE BUDGIES IN THAT CAGE! The purpose of this video was to show that my budgie could escape out of a cage.

Years ago, I had a cage with a built-in hole for a water tube. My bird preferred to drink out of a dish and never used the tube, so I eventually removed it, leaving the hole uncovered. It was about the diameter of a quarter and looked too small for him to get through, so I wasn’t worried about him escaping. In fact, he ignored it, and I soon forgot it was there. A few months later I got a new bird to keep him company. They were supposed to be quarantined from each other for the first few days, so I put their cages on opposite sides of the living room. The next day I came home from work to find the male bird out of his cage and hanging onto the side of the new bird's cage, chirping up a storm. The water-tube hole was the only possible way he could have gotten out – the door was drawbridge-style and impossible for a little bird to lift up to close back even if he could somehow manage to open it in the first place. That’s when I realized budgies are smaller than they look – the fluffy feathers fool you. Apparently, he could have squeezed himself through that little hole at any time – he was just waiting for a good reason to take the trouble. I gave up on quarantining them and opened the new bird's door. The escapee wasted no time going in; they took up housekeeping together and right away became best buddies. The new bird turned out to also be a male, but that didn’t seem to matter. 😊

My cockatiel learned the same technique. He knew how to escape so we used to use bread ties to stop him

My bird used to do that all the time we tried using twist ties but they did not work and he still got out when he wanted to and went back in when he was done exploring

My love bird does this so i lock her doors at night lol, i open them up in the morning so she can come out and stretch and fly around

I used to have that cage, every bird i owned figured out that those could lift up lol, had to use a clothes peg to keep them shut

Hand trained! Big whoop. We have a flock without any hand training. When THEY get out, it is a major project to catch the bird and cage it. And the bird is not a team player!

This is the most poorly made cage design I've ever seen. Anything could escape. Mine has food bowls that block the sliding door, so my birds could never slip through. Who makes these pet cages anyway? 😑

Не побег, а трюк на камеру. Любые хозяева наблюдают за поведением своих птиц и животных и пресекают нежелательное поведение. В частности, побег из клетки.
