A short video showing some factual aspects of the large Australian Wolf Spider Lycosa sp behaviour in a typical lawn on the east coast of Australia.
If you like this video you can see more of my work at
The footage was obtained entirely on location and sets were not used.
ERRATUM: PLEASE NOTE THAT WHERE THE NARRATOR REFERS TO GRASSHOPPERS, AFTER THE FIRST CLIP THE FOLLOWING ARE ACTUALLY CRICKETS FROM THE FAMILY TETTIGONIIDAE (THEY CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY HAVING LONG ANTENNAE) Sorry!

CHECK OUT THIS OTHER CREEPY SPIDER VID HERE!

FINALLY a generic note to all who watch this video:

Thanks for your comments liking the vid but no your are wrong (if you suggest/imply or simply state the following about the making of this film): I never tore off an legs put any crickets/grasshoppers near holes etc. This vid took over 3 weeks to film not to mention the several weeks before filming to scope an area of over 400m2 looking for active spiders in their holes and noting at what time of day they came out and when and where the sun direction was from, temperature, when crickets (they were actually day cricket and not grasshoppers) were about etc. Everything you see on FCF is very well thought out, with a proper productions, and thorough research liaising with world authorities on subject matter for accurate narrations .Sometimes SFX are indeed added however there are no interspecies conflicts nor are there any forced conflicts just loads of research, careful and detailed observations, and the stuff you can't buy off the shelf and that's patience and dealing with the countless times you sit there getting eaten alive by mosquitos, bitten by ants to make something like what you see here in this short film.

Thanks for watching!

0:45 That awkward moment when you suddenly realize that there's a camera and that some British guy is narrating every single little thing you do.

DON'T KILL WOLF SPIDERS! These guys are chill as fuck and they're great at killing other nasties you might find in your back yard... they kill other spiders for fun! They aren't particularly aggressive to humans either and would much prefer to run away or avoid you completely. If one comes into your home, use a glass and paper to scoop it and let it go away from your house.

I'm trying to overcome my arachnophobia, so watching things like this is pretty rough. I can see why people think they are beautiful in a way.

They are not known to be dangerous to humans, though I would avoid being bitten by any spider just in case of an allergic reaction. Thanks for watching!

1:19 to 1:20
Literally took a fraction or less of a second to glitch out of no where. Falcons may be able to dive a phenomenal speeds using gravity, but you can't even see a spider when it's moving at its fastest.

I'm pretty sure the camera crew broke a leg off the grasshopper on purpose to show the wolf spider in action.

That spider was kind of beautiful.

Nice, informative video. Too bad more people didn't learn from it.

I used to think wolf spiders had the scariest faces with their two big black eyes and frowny expression but now I think they look cute. They actually do look like wolves or dogs or a Scotsman with their gingery beardy fangs! If I had one I'd call him Hamish as they look like Mel Gibson's ginger compatriot in Braveheart.
