Holy shit that last moment gave me more motivation to go for my dreams than any lecture ever will

the best part about this video is that BDG is now famous for making video game comedy videos and his roommate working towards his graduate degree at MIT

I'll admit, this video played a non-zero part in my decision to stop studying Computer Engineering and become a baker instead

There's something about this, where all the cynicism just melts away at the end, that really gets me.

The best part of this is how the roommate reacts this whole time. Normally the moment the friend or family that's discouraging you realizes you have talent and admits would be a huge, validating moment. But when Brian says "that's the best bread I've ever had" his roommate just nods. He knows he has talent and has confidence in himself. He doesn't need Brian's approval, he's just finally helped his roommate see what he knew was there all along. And Brian, who gave up on himself, realizes he should have believed in his roommate... And maybe himself too.

That's genuinely brilliant.

This video has such ambiguous internet vibes. You could have told me this was made in any year between like 2005 and 2020 and I probably would have believed you

I came here after watching Brian nearly cry while eating salted fry bread in Unraveled. He sure does have a knack for being surprised by good bread.

i love the part where you imply that mathematicians have stable high paying employment

hate that this fun lil video is what finally knocked me out of the horrible "i need to get a high paying job and THEN ill try to be happy". now im still in college but i changed majors to something simple and have a minimum wage job that i dont hate and im no longer impressive but im happier.

On one hand I'm very happy and impressed by Nick getting his PhD at MIT
On the other hand

I avoided this video like the plague thinking it was going to be a negative serious lecture style video about how becoming a baker is unrealistic and bla bla bla
I’m glad I finally caved, and I’m so sorry for those who didn’t

Nothing wrong with being a baker. You'll just knead a little dough to get by.

I tried the no-knead artisan bread recipe at 0:37 and it turned out alright, though i made some modifications and was able to cut the waiting time down to 7 hours - from 14.
here's my modified version:

Ingredients

4 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 teaspoon instant dry yeast
2 cups warm (110F) water
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon sugar

the dough

1. combine all ingredients in a bowl, making sure no dry flour is left on the bottom

2. cover bowl with plastic wrap and let proof on the countertop for an hour. then place in the fridge for at least 6 hours - up to 24.

shaping the loaf

3. remove dough from fridge onto a well-dusted work surface, and form into a loaf shape. line a 13-Inch loaf pan with parchment paper and place the dough into the pan.

4. cover and let proof on the countertop for another hour

Baking the bread

5. preheat the oven to 390F

6. sprinkle a little flour on the loaf and score the top with a knife to prevent bursting

7. bake for 20 minutes at 380F, then 25 minutes at 340F

8. remove from oven and transfer to a cooling rack - let cool for at least 20 minutes before cutting into the bread.

** can also be baked in a dutch oven by:
- preheating the dutch oven to 390F for at least 30 minutes
- shaping the dough into a ball on a layer of parchment paper and lowering into the preheated dutch oven
- baking for 20 minutes covered at 390F, then another 20 uncovered at 390F

As someone who’s parents are literally a Physics doctor and math teacher, I’m gonna assume he deliberately chose two of the least lucrative positions for irony

I'm glad that BDG is now living his dream and making 20k every month by being his own boss. 😌

Hopefully his baker friend is too 🙏

In what universe is teaching a "lucrative position"
Edit: OK I GET IT COLLEGE PROFESSORS (and non-Americans) MAKE A LOT OF MONEY
