I started the original Smash Bros. DOJO!! back when internet capabilities were much more limited—and it turned out to be very different from other official websites at the time.
By the way, this is the final video in the Marketing category!

I love how even Sakurai refuses to call Twitter "X" lol

Hehehe, referring player interaction on social media as "risk management" is very accurate.

Before Melee’s release, I printed all 26 character pages from the Smash Bros. Dojo and studied them endlessly, that’s how excited I was for the game to come out! 😅

Those strengths/weaknesses breakdowns for the Smash 64 cast were very in-depth, like detailing which parts of the body are invulnerable during attacks, mentions of hitboxes... I wish more games back then were public about this kind of thing.

Love to know Sakurai himself wrote most of the website content. It's definitely full of passion since he's the one directingthe game.

I have such fond memories of the Brawl Dojo, it's by far the most engaging piece of marketing I've seen for a video game. The excitement when the "Warning: Challenger Approaching" banner appeared at the top of the site was something else.

It must have been a ton of work though, so I understand why nothing like it has been done since. I'm grateful I got to experience it the one time it was possible.

The Brawl Dojo is special to me. I've never experienced it in the intended "pre release hype" way, but after getting the game as one of my first videogames ever, I found the site and just started reading everything, enjoying a lot of the cute or funny image captions in particular, and finding out more and more about this game that shaped my entire childhood.

Brawl's Smash Dojo was the peak Smash site. Checking it every morning for the new announcement blog was such a good time..

I remember seeing Sonic get announced on Brawls dojo and the entire net just going crazy over it… Good times.

I still remember on the German Smash Bros Dojo, the funny mistranslation where Ness' "baseball bat" was translated as a "Baseball-Fledermaus" (Fledermaus being the animal "bat" lol)
Checked the Dojo every morning... simple times.

Feels nostalgic looking back as Brawl's DOJO website was one of my earliest internet experience as a kid. It's awesome to see that that Brawl, SSB4, and Ultimate's websites are still up as of writing this comment.

Some of my core memories growing up were checking Smash Bros. DOJO every day.
I remember being in school, seeing the fake Bomberman pictures, rushing to the website and then losing my mind that Olimar was confirmed instead (Pikmin was my favourite game as a kid).

I used to run to the computer lab in freshman year high school during lunch to see the newest updates. I’ll never forget when Ike was revealed, running back to lunch to tell the boys. Some unforgettable memories

I will never forget Brawl's Dojo, where everyone became excited for Japan Time, and how you could get anything from You Must Recover to RED and Sonic

I was religious in being on the Smash Bros Dojo during the Brawl era. I will forever remember August 1st, 2007, because that's when Ike was introduced. Then, October 10th was when Sonic was revealed, and the delay was announced. Very impactful times. lol

Speaking of marketing, I remember being constantly excited about what characters could be revealed in the Pic of the Day during Smash 4's time. That sense of anticipation was what helped folks stay engaged with it, along with trailers in the Nintendo Directs.
