100000 Steps In 24 Hours Challenge
Показать описание
Walking 50 Miles / 100,000 Steps In A Single Day - My Most Epic Challenge Yet! Ever since I began using a FitBit to track my steps, I always wondered how difficult it would be to walk 100,000 steps in a single day. For the last two years I have tried to get in at least 15,000 steps in every day. Many days I would be able to beat this mark, getting to the 20K, 25K, 30K, 35K and even the 40K marks. I knew this was going to be a difficult, but I felt I had conditioned my body to take up the 100,000 steps in a single day challenge. So I started to prepare myself mentally.
I rested the day before the challenge and began it promptly at midnight. That morning I had weighted in at 197.4 pounds. I found that I was able to walk about 6000 steps and hour, which is about a 3 mile per hour pace.
I walked around my division, which is about 5 miles round trip. Walking during the night was incredibly peaceful. There were no people out, just the sound of crickets chirping and frogs croaking. My division is around a golf course so I walked on the golf path for portions of the walk. This gave me a lot of time to think and refresh my mind.
With walking all through the night, right around breakfast time I had broken my previous one day walking record of just over 41,000 steps in a single day, and 40 minutes after that I had managed to walk over 26 miles, the distance of a full marathon.
At this point my body was tired. My feet were swollen, the shins just hurt, my lower back ached, my neck and shoulder there tight, but I wanted to try and get as much done in the cool of the day as I could.
Around lunch time I had cracked the 65,000 steps mark, and decided I needed to have a bit of a rest. So I went inside for a short bit. I started walking on the treadmill, but I really wanted to complete this challenge outside, so I took to the streets once again.
I pushed on despite the pain I was in. This was easily the most difficult challenge I have done to date from an exhaustion standpoint.I found myself taking a lot more breaks now, but I still pushed on to accomplish this challenge.
When I got to my house I was still a couple of miles away from hitting 100K steps, so I decided to make one more loop around my neighborhood. I hit my goal half way around but still had two make it back home. I needed up finishing the challenge with 105,453 steps.
I came home, took a shower and went to bed. The next morning I weighed in at 192 pounds, down 5.4 pounds from when I had started this challenge. I had walked 53.5 miles, the equivalence of 2 whole marathons.
This was an incredible challenge, but mentally and physically. I'm glad I was able to complete it, though I am not sure I will ever try it again!
I would not recommend this challenge to someone who is not already walking quite a bit. My feet and legs were already used to walking a lot, but it was incredibly difficult still. It would be very easy to get injured trying to complete this challenge, so I would recommend working yourself up to it if you want to give it a try.
