I have often wondered if those folk with really neat, beautifully decorated or perfectly simple planners they film and post online have a behind-the-scenes truly messy planner that they use for real life! To me the crossings-out, smudges and coffee stains just show it's being used!😊

Planner perfectionism is a plague. I think people need to embrace the smudgy ink, the crooked lines, and just focus on WRITING THEIR STORY. It doesn’t have to be IG perfect. Nothing truly is. That’s why I like the YTer Jane the Crazy because she’s controlled chaos in her inserts, and it’s totally freeing.

The number of times I’ve considered making my own planner… it’s a dream/goal. Maybe one day. lol

My two discoveries this year that have become a foil to my planner perfectionism: planning in pencil, and starting from the back with collections. My reading log, wish list, things to check out list, etc are all in the back of my common planner so I don't have to feel like I need to put all those things right at the front. And I like blocking out scheduled time on the weekly pages on Sunday night, but my weekdays are so variable that I was having to make constant use of white-out. Now I block in pencil, and at the end of the night go back and put down what I actually did in pen. It's very nice, and has become a memory keeper of sorts as well

It took me a couple of years of planner hopping and fiddling with layouts to find my groove and my planner. My needs also changed over this time, which complicated finding the "perfect" set up and book. (It's the Weeks Mega, to my surprise.) Sam's recent videos have also helped with this process.
A lot of discontent comes from trying to copy the systems and layouts I saw on social media. The trick is to see others' planners as a source of ideas and inspirations, not something to be copied.

I've always been a pocket planner gal, but was always just a bit dissatisfied with the page size I could have. Then I got hold of a Moterm Versa in Pocket/A7. I gave away the insert and added 30mm rings to the inside. Perfection. Now I can have larger pages, with top and bottom tab dividers that don't bend when I stand it up because the binder itself is much taller than the usual A7. I prefer the configuration of the Versa outer too and it makes the perfect wallet as well as planner. I now have Planner Peace, which, after 42 years of planning, has given me a new sense of calm. Loved your vid as always. Thanks

I agree with the hobo weeks. I have looked back in my 2023 weeks several times this year. It wasn't as "put together " as I would like, so looking back was frustrating but enlightening to the point that my current weeks will have a better organized view according to "my brain."
❤ Its the weeks for me!

Finding this video a little late, but it definitely spoke to some of the things that I have been dealing with lately. In a world where digital rules, I just can't be a 100% digital girl. That being said, I have struggled to find the right planner system for me. I have planner hoped for the past 3 years, and it has cost me time and money. I'm trying to settle into something and know that nothing is ever going to be perfect. As a first-time mama, I need ease and function. That is something that I am working on right now.

I think it's good to stick to the planner that you have chosen for at least a week to give it a 2nd chance because it forces us to think creatively: how can we make it work for us?

I have come back to the narrow tn after a year of rings. I missed using a bound book, I'm presently in a cut down stalogy housed in a chic sparrow bella narrow. I had "planned "on doing a no spend... and then ordered the stalogy to cut down and ordered the Bella cover.... but I'm really happy with my set up so it was worth it to me 🤦‍♀️. Maybe I'll try a bit harder during the month of February 😊

Hi, Sam! I struggle with my perfectionist tendencies in my planner. If I make a mistake, often I stop using the planner for a while because I don’t like to look at my mistake. I appreciate you sharing your planner journey!

Can definitely relate to perfectionism and why it’s easy for me to abandon bound books that aren’t ‘perfect’ - it’s funny how we know these issues logically, nothing is ever perfect, but we still are driven to do all the wrong things 😅

i want to thank you for introducing me to the Commit30. i know it didn't work for you, but for me, it brings me closer to planner perfection. my problem is being stuck between minimalist and organized clutter lol. i purchased the Commit 30 PDF for 2024 and it gives me the accountability i need and the creative space i desire also.

I love that you are making what you have work for you! It is hard. I am on a low buy for craft supplies. I'm trying to use what I have. I loved to hear your thought process on the planners that you are using! I have found what works for me and what doesn't even in the planners I've been using this year. I'm trying to be more mindful and stick with what I have and make it work for me.

I am on a no buy, using what is in my stash. I am really happy with my set-up because I took all of the ideas I have gleaned from YouTube/Pinterest and put in what works for me. I use stickers, washi, and rubber stamps (because I can't draw or do fancy lettering), and keep my layouts very simple and uncomplicated. I use Frixion pens because they are erasable. I found that the planner styles I was drawn to the most were the ones that were a little messy and "homemade." They had such personality! I keep a notebook in my purse for the mundane stuff (grocery lists, ) and stuff I want to transfer later (sermon notes, inspirational quotes or bible verses, appointments scheduled 6 months out.) I copy anything important or worthwhile into my Planner when I have the time to sit down and make it neat and tidy (Bedtime.) I also realized I don't need (or want) to track EVERY.Little.Thing.

I have found planner contentment in my ec petite folio for the time being. I love that I can be messy in my little weekly moleskine that fits in it where my schedule /notes/ meal planning is written in and creative in the book where I have my daily log/journal/memory keeping. I can toss out books eventually that I don't really need to keep and only have to buy 1-2 books at a time to replace full ones. I also will only have to get a new cover when I feel like it so that can be done at sale time to keep my spending really low.

I feel this. I love my Ubrand pens also. The struggle is real to keep the focus with so many options. The latest and greatest and FOMO pressure. I started planning in the last four months. Trying to just “do the plan daily.”

You sound much happier in this video. I’m glad you are happy in your current system. I’m stillloving to regular and waiting on an olive cover. I’ve been buying embroidery floss like a mad women. Just because I started embroidering again does t mean I need 447 of them. My protectionist around my stitches drives me crazy I compare my work to much more experienced crafters. But I’m not going to quite.

As I type this I have a huge stack of Heidi journal that I for a year and I don't want to use them again yet I don't have the heart to even donate them to good will just yet.
And thank you again for doing the destash
Play a mustard yellow Pocket rings made a great addition To my To my other moterms that I have terms that I have.
I can't wait to put it to use when I go back to school this coming fall.

Hello Sam🙋🏻‍♀️ Please forgive me if you’ve answered this before on another video: Have you ever tried/considered punching your hobo weeks and putting it in your Malden? Since you love both, maybe combine them into one so you’d still have the weeks plus different sections plus scrap paper at the ready plus different pens to use etc. I know it takes away the specialness of a bound book but maybe try it with an old outdated weeks and see if it works. Or feel free to ignore me if I’m hurting your brain 😅😅
Edited to add: congratulations on meeting you weight loss goal 👏🏼👏🏼
