Hitler knew that only by looking like a legitimate electable party could he begin to destroy Germany’s democracy from within. The nation’s politicians failed to appreciate the diabolical pact they were making with the leader of the Nazis, which would led to their ultimate destruction.

I finished the whole series on a flight. Hands down one of the best documentaries I’ve watched. The historians, the actors, the writes, the knowledge everything really took you on a journey to that time.

Done much more subtly and classier than other series on the same themes. So often they feature a Hitler caricature with wildly innacurate uniforms etc. Here we only see a glance of the face, we already know who it is, no need to fill the footage out with silly mock ups. Well done BBC.

The actors in this documentary look like the actual people of that time.

What happened to the period 1919 to 1932? That seems to be entirely missing. That was the true 'Rise of the Nazis' period.

This explained the Neo Nazis reveals with their great grandfamily from the war.

The fact that general Mike Jackson who was responsible for those soldiers who shot innocent people in Derry on Bloody Sunday is in this leaves a sour taste.
