Oh yeah, never forgot those words when I was a kid. The only thing you can say that will stop Gort in his tracks!

In Evil Dead 3 - Army of Darkness, Ash says Klaatu Verata Nikto. A variation on these words.

"There's no limit to what he could do. He could destroy the Earth."

One of the best sci-fi movies made with an intelligent screenplay, great acting and music by Bernard Herrmann. The bellicose nature of mankind meets up with an entity who delivers a powerful warning to Earth. Derived from a short story by Harry Bates, ( Farewell to the Master.) Of interest, in the original tale, it is Gort who is the Master and Klattu, ( Michael Rennie, ) is simply the emissary. Great special effects for the time!

1950s memories of my sister and myself, only in grade school, sitting with our father in the movie theater.
I kept repeating those words over and over.
It's amazing so many decades later I've never forgotten them.

Great movie ! Classic. As a child "Gorta" scared me ! I have always enjoyed Michael Rennie as an actor. He is the type of actor that takes control of the scene in which he is acting. I thought his other great movie was Les Miserables where he played Jean Valjean.

Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV. You never know what you might need to remember to keep the end from happening.

I have known those words since I was a kid in the 50s.

Of course, this scene introduced a conflict in the movie script. According to that script, the robot, Gort, was supposed to operate entirely autonomously ("absolute power over us, " assuring the robot could not be controlled by any person), yet Klaatu (the alien) was able to control Gort with these simple words ("Klaatu barada nikto").

Surely you’d write it down, just to make sure you don’t forget it.

It really sounds more like Klaatu " Varada " Nikto ? I watched Patricia Neal's lips in the short clip over and over, it surely looks and sounds like a " V " instead of a " B " ?

Patricia Neal was only 12 years older than Billy Gray who played her son Bobby. He was 13 at the time.
