you shouldn't eat fruits by itself because most fruits are high in GI and create a massive insulin spike which is bad for us pcos girlies who already have insulin resistance, so we should always pair fruits with some fats or protein which will slow their absorption and will create a much less glucose spike.

I just paid 100$ to be told to eat exactly the opposite...I feel like I will never figure this out

The fruit one always has me confused because some schools of thought agree with this, saying to avoid eating fruit alone because of the insulin spike. Then other schools of thought, like ayurveda and food combining, say to _only_ eat fruit by itself so that it moves quickly through the digestive system and doesn't sit and ferment in the gut, causing gas, bloating, and other issues. It's also an issue of enzyme production, and it being hard on our body to make it produce the enzymes to digest both fruit/carbs and heavy proteins at the same time.

I know from my own observations, my body does not love having most fruit with protein. I'll usually eat the fruit first, then follow it up with a protein or fat within about 20 minutes. That way my body can get the fruit out of my stomach, but recieve protein in enough time to avoid a crash.

That explains why I get even hangrier when I eat a single apple or an entire bowl of pears thinking it’ll hold me over.

South beach diet tells you to eat protein with your fruit or carbohydrate because it slows the absorption and decreases the insulin spike. Keep in mind. I use this years ago, but it worked. Back then a reproductive endocrinologist suggested the Zone diet which also taught what to eat with foods so that they were absorbed in a way that didn’t spike insulin.

I was taught in Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine that you should not consume fruits with meals. Such as, in Ayurvedic medicine, it's believed that mixing fruits, especially sweet and sour ones, with other food types can disrupt digestion and is often recommend eating fruit separately to maintain balanced digestion and prevent digestive discomfort. Additionally, when fruits are eaten with meals, their sugars may mix with other food groups, potentially causing a delayed but more sustained blood sugar spike. Another theory is that combining fruits with other food groups, like proteins or starches, can interfere with the body’s ability to absorb nutrients effectively....

Oh this makes sense! I add fruits into my work lunchbox and find I have more stable energy after I eat my wrap and then fruits rather than when I eat my fruits alone as a morning or arvo snack. Then I’m just still hungry soon after and it does not help energy wisd

Can you also explain why? Because I am unable to understand the logic behind the first one. Since ages, I have only heard about and seen people have fruits on its own. Only recently people have started adding chopped fruits into their breakfast bowls. And since that time we have started developing these lifestyle conditions like PCOD.

I just got diagnosed with PCOS at 27 after years of drs not listening to my concerns. I used to be obese and this was around when my issues started, interesting that it became worse when i was vegan at 15 and my weight was the highest back then.

I’ve been adding dairy (low fat milk, Greek yogurt) to my meals because I’m trying to get more protein, what about cottage cheese? Is it really bad? @pcosweightloss

I need to eat fruit or drink fruit juice when I feel like I’m going to faint because of my low blood sugar. Otherwise, I avoid having too many sweets.

Very true, I had a big inflammation that was caused by all these 3 things .When I removed the coffee and dairy drinks and wheat, my life got better .I reduced tremendously my fruits but I use more the berries after every meal never on empty stomach and any sweet fruits I go go very very low and little portion like pineapple chunks fresh fruit never any juice or from cans .I eat other sweet fruits but small portion not all the time .I have pcos/ hypothyroidism for a long time undiagnosed. I much better after changes.

Do you mean not to eat fruit by itself like for a snack? Or do you mean not to rely on it for a whole meal by itself?

I think I have fructose intolerance. What should you pair fruit with?
