Great vid, Ken! I have a 5500 and love the additional frequencies and Range feature. Works a treat for applying that API sauce in mastering applications!

I think UAD is the bees knees when it comes to hardware emulations, but I recently purchased the Waves API Collection for chump change during a promotion and must say, I was pleasantly surprised by how close the 550b sounds to the hardware!
I also have a 2500, and wasn't as impressed with the cartoon version of that although it's still a really solid plugin with lots of vibe.

Cheers from Toronto!

Nice! John Leckie worked on some of my favourite records! XTC, Magazine, PiL etc...

Awesome! Really lookin forward to this series. EQ is such a DEEP subject.
I really really hope you cover Pultec style push-pull EQ. I just just can't quite wrap my mind around it. Like ... Why? Why do it that way? What's the purpose?
Anyhow, thanks for yet another great video. It's so cool that you're doing this. :D

Proportional Q is an interesting concept...any vst plugs using that approach?

Great info as always, from HiWatt! Something strange to me, I’ve had artists whom I’ve done remixes for in the past, ask me not to use any EQ at all. And this is for finalized product. My rule of thumb is, there is always some sort of EQing on every track that has to be done, even if it’s the most subtle adjustments. Seems senseless to spend hours of work on a track to be left sounding muddy.

Recently seen a review of the SSL Six, very impressive and they touched on EQ as well. Very nice but six channels (2 mono 2 stereo) at €1399 a bit too much for me. Might have a look at the Tascam Model 12 with the DP24 becoming a sub mixer.
