Final Cut Pro X vs DaVinci Resolve 16 - Speed Test 2020!

FCX is the fastest, right? I compared to Resolve 16 and things got interesting!

In this video, I compare the latest 2020 version of Final Cut Pro X FCX against Davinci Resolve 16 in a bunch of tests including 4K H.264 video, 8 Bit H.265 HEVC video, and 10-bit 4K HEVC H.265 HDR video. I test video stabilization, timeline playback with color correction and LUT's applied, as well as render and export speeds.

I was quite surprised by the results, what do you think?

There’s multiple stabilization options in Davinci and you can set your custom parameters. All of that can really effect the time it takes to stabilize...

i love how davinci resolve is pushing the market up, having that level of optimization available on pc linux and mac even with a free version is verry nice for everyone.

I went straight to Davinci Resolve and my Threadripper 3970X crushes it for 4K content.

I think that Davinci made step up with their v16. I never tried Davinci Resolve before, but I'm using it since v16 and I don't regret at all. And it's getting better and better with every update.

Hi Max! Great video, this may make me finally switch from Premiere Pro to Resolve. BIG QUESTION: We're shooting a micro budget documentary on an a7rIII, tons of footage--probably 4 or 5 TBs worth--final product will be short though, probably 15 to 20 mins. Do you have an external drive you'd recommend that's fast enough for a 4k project with tons of color grading, slow motion, and other taxing video layers? Probably can't afford an SSD that's fast enough. Our computer is a 2014 Mac Pro trash can. Thanks!
