The Spartans make a decision to save the Greek cities in Asia Minor. This leads to some success but not a decisive victory. Both sides also spend a lot of time posturing.

Hello ! first i want to thank you and congratulate you for this amazing work, your videos are very informative as well as appealling to history fans, so thank you very much :)
I have only one question, I noticed that Troy exists as a city in Asia minor in most of the maps, and i wonder, had it not been destroyed by the myceneans approximately 800 years before this time ? or was it simply rebuilt ? and if so, didn't Troy have any military or political influence on the events around the aegean sea and the ionic part of Asia ?
Thank you again for your efforts and i wish you good luck in all that is yet to come.

Satraps seem to have enjoyed a fair bit of autonomy, if they could enter peace negotiations with enemies and even act against other satraps. Of course, given the size of the Persian Empire, I guess it must have been fairly tough for the Great King to keep a close eye on everything they did.

Hey, some unrelated questions,
Why did hoplites paint their shields? And was there any sense of pride in how ones shield was painted? Thanks!

So after thinking about it for a while I have no idea how the Persians kept losing to the geeks. The Persians had defeated Greek armies before in Asia Minor in the Ionia revolt. And in Greece itself. The geeks had strong infantry of course and only the roman legions could defeat the geeks in a frontal assult, abs could hold the Macedonian phalanx in place, so the Greek phalanx was unbeatable in a frontal assult, however the Persians could feild very large armies that could surround and destroy smaller Greek armies, and that coupled with superior cavalry the Greeks should have had no chance. The Spartans may have been the only people who could have formed a double phalanx but other geeks should have been destroyed and even the Spartans. Even on paper the phalanx should fall apart. The legion which I consider far superior to the phalanx is hard to beat on paper, because it can be attacked on all sides and handle it, but they were defeated through tactics. We also have to remember that not all Persian troops were the same. Persian troops we're brought in from all sides of the empire, there were archers, swordsman, sword throwers, different types of cav, so in retrospect I can even see how the Persians would lose so bad, and not even work on military improvement.
