"Olympic victor Milo of Croton was said to have carried a bull on his shoulders, and to have burst a band about his brow by simply inflating the veins of his temples"

"Yes"

Fun fact: Pierre de Coubertin revived the Olympics in 1896, then won a gold medal (anonymously) himself in 1912.

Literature was an event back then

Signing attendant: “Name?"

Participant: “Mikalo."

Signing attendant: “City?"

Mikalo: “Sparta."

Signing attendant: “Profession?"

*Mikalo cracks a smile as he turns to his Olympic team.*

Mikalo: “Spartans! What is your profession?!"

Spartans: “Ahh oow! ahh oow! ahh oow!"

Mikalo: [Laughs]

Signing attendant: [Sighs] “Sir, that is *not* a profession."

Mikalo: “Yeah, sorry. Ah... Put me down for Javelin and Wrestling."

Signing attendant: “Very good, sir. Please proceed on through. Next!"

Groin strikes were also forbidden in Pankration. The spartans didn't send fighters because, in their country, everything was allowed during matches. Training with restrictions would have made them worse at war.

You know, it's actually really awesome that we still have the Olympics. Our current reality, world, civilization, however you put it, is so different than Ancient Greece, and yet, we still have this tie to them from way back then. (Taking into consideration the 1, 500 year break.) I mean, it really is pretty impressive, keeping up a tradition from that long ago, when so many other practices, beliefs, and ways of life, have been changed, stopped, or forgotten. Granted, the Olympics are greatly different than they were then. But there is still the fundamental basis of individuals in peak physical fitness, competing for the ultimate titles.
