Giant ragweed is one of my favorites. Acts as cover as well with thick stands.

Here in Iowa the pheasants LOVE giant ragweed seed. I imagine it’s good brooding cover too

A little information here, A ' WEED ' is usually defined as --- Any plant species that was not intentionally planted as part of a larger cultivation . ' Volunteer ' plants are usually considered ' Weeds ', whether they are considered ' Beneficial ' or not . ' Volunteer ' plants are plants that come into existence without your intentional planting . So let's say that last years planting cycle you planted ' Maize ' ( also known in the U.S., as Corn ), a ' Volunteer ' would be ' Maize / Corn ' plants growing in this years planting cycle without having been intentionally planted this year, a ' left over ' that germinated outside of the new planting cycle . So in Truth, most plants on the planet are ' Volunteer Weeds ', including Trees and Shrubs .

The other day, the farm show I watch listed Compass Plant as the “weed of the Week” with subsequent control ideas-Really? Now, I get-it, any plant can be a weed if it competes with a target crop or plant community but, ragweed is a good example of in wildlife management, it’s a goody! I used to shoot a lot of rooster pheasants out of ragweed patches, their crops full of the seed.
