Thanks for a wonderful explanation of why this La Niña is different than the last 2 we had. Good to know we could be going into an El Niño so hopefully the signs are good in terms of the storm track coming our way. Lets see how things play out the rest of this Winter & much later this year.

2016-17 was a wet year during La Nina, and this year was a La Nina but jet stream this season was more to the South.

Thanks Darren! Could you explain the water in the upper atmosphere got there over the past 10 years?
Also, there appears to be a waning of the wind in the tropical oceans as though the trades are really slowing down. A lot of people out there on sailboats having to motor long distances.
