It is very important to make sure it is compatible. I usually stay with the same brand for primer/sealer, color and topcoat. thanks Brad!

I've had issues with paints not mixing well together I would suggest a sample piece before hand to be sure the paint will mix well. I had stenciled a pinball game that cost me around 250 dollars in stencils and paint to find out the clear coat didn't mix with the black paint on the game. All the black paint cracked and melted off to the primer. Good luck

Great tip Brad! How about for a Quick Tip Tuesday going over the compatibility of finishes, or maybe that might require a longer video. That's a really important topic that a TON of people just aren't aware of. Something that might be a cool thing would be to demonstrate what happens when you spray nitro over poly, and what can happen when you spray poly over not very dried nitro etc. Just some ideas for some content if you're ever in a pinch for ideas.

Thanks for the vids and the help. That Behlen vinyl sealer and the clear lacquer gloss were great for my guitar build. I've never been successful with gloss finishes until I watched your vids. 🎸

I heard this somewhere "A work of art is never finished you just quit working on it" I like.

exactly the information i was curious about, making some brackets for my bike from scratch and my closest available color match is a satin shine paint, but i am working from bare metal and sanding and priming is a thing, and i'm using a matte clear coat. sounds like it should match the matte finish on my bike close enough.

Love all your videos, Brad! I've picked up many tips from watching them.
What about a gloss to matte fade? I'm thinking of something like a gloss purple fading into a matte black for a bike frame. What would be your approach?

What’s better for best results for shine. Gloss paint with a clear coat or matte paint with a clear.

Hi Brad, could you recommend a good clear poly spray for doing a more semi-gloss finish? Love the 2K Clear Glamour by Spray Max you recommended. Have you tried the semi-matte? Or, would you just use the Clear Glamour and sand it without polishing to get a semi-gloss? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hey Brad, I have a question I was hoping you could help me with. I have a Telecaster kit, and I'm painting it with spray cans of Nitro lacquer. I have a primer, color and a clear coat. I remember you saying in one of your videos that if you apply too many coats in one day, the finish will crack. Now, I'm going to be relicing this guitar anyway, so if I apply the majority of my coats in one or two days, will the finish crack like a normal Nitro lacquered guitar? Or will it look different?

Thanks

this is so useful, thank you! What would you recommend as a matte varnish to use over a gloss alkalyd based black wood laquer?

Thank you much for this tip. I hired a painter to patch an investment property. Today I realize that I gave him egg shell and the original paint is flat. I have an open house in two days! It looks awful. It's interior acrylic latex. What spray do I buy to fix this asap?
