DIY Media / Record Console | Ikea Hack | Kallax Bookcase

Today on Ikea Hacks, I take a boring Ikea bookcase and convert it into an awesome, Modern Record Console. It could be used as a media console, buffet..or even a bookcase if all else fails. All the vinyl storage is great and the birch plywood has a nice, blonde tone that I'll be incorporating a lot in the future.

That intro is so 90s and wonderful.
Also a really great and straight forward upgrade - the idea of adding contrasting woods to the Ikea furniture makes such an immediate difference!

Little tip for making a double sized section! Instead of marking, cutting, spackling, and painting, you can switch the single shelf with the double and you just have to flush trim the dowels! That’s probably confusing, but this is what I’ve done in the past!

You didn't need to cut the vertical piece at 0:52, just swaping the 2 short horizontal pieces with the long vertical and then placing 1 of the short horizontals vertically was enough, it fits in the Kallax model.

Great build dude! You could also attach a piece of painted ply as a backing for the shelf to keep your cables out of sight, just drill out behind the receiver to route the cables to

I made the exact same shelf style in my garage but didn't rip the 2x4 down. I ended up with an 8' long shelf that's 2' deep. Works great and very strong even with 1/2" OSB shelving. Even with a bottom shelf just off the garage floor it's a bit top heavy and I secured it to the wall. 2:57
