Review: 2023 Royal Enfield Scram 411 [Road Test]

"The Scram 411 plays quite well into the no-frills notion of urban two-wheel mobility, with a capacity for some light off-road riding. The Scram borrows a number of mechanical elements from its brother, the Himalayan, but possesses its own unique look, which is ushered along by a wide range of striking paint schemes. The bike attracts a lot of attention. I was approached numerous times by riders and non-riders asking about the bike. It’s that kind of non-intimidating presence that is fueling Royal Enfield’s sales, especially among new riders."

Having toured two up on a single cylinder Suzuki TUx 250 for several years, to me the 411 makes perfect sense. There is something to be said riding in the slow lane. You ride relaxed, never feeling the need to push your self too hard. You can spend more time “in the moment” enjoying the scenery . And highways are boring no matter what you ride. Once you leave the highway and get on some twist back roads, small lightweight singles rule!
Our knees got old, so we now tour on our Vulcan 900, which gives us plenty of room to stretch our legs out. But even though it is faster, a bit more comfortable, and has a great wind shield we still look back with a great deal of fondness at our days spent traveling on a small single cylinder bike. It was fun!

Very nice review, thanks! I’m Suprised that you didn’t mention the tripper navigation device. Especially given that road runner is all about road trips. It’s certainly not a full featured navigation but I find on my Himalayan it gives me just enough information to get to where I want to go without being to much of a distraction.

Why is it only good for light offroading ? I smash mine through the Victorian Otways, gravel, mud, ruts... the road less travelled... it can cope with "heaps" of abuse... it can cope with all terrain any other adventure bike can deal with... Granted its not a motocross/offroad bike ... but they are not road bikes... i love it

I don't understand why Enfield does not increase performance slightly for US and European market.
A UK developed camshaft increases power by 16% without any other mods.. Going from 24.3 bhp to 28 bhp, ,

I've considered one of these as a backlane scratcher but I ride a 390 Duke. There's no way the 411 is as good. The weight you quoted is not the dry weight; it's the wet weight.

The off-road points were not researched nor attempted. There are plenty of videos showing these scramblers have pretty good capability off road, much more than just dirt roads. This video was uploaded 7 months ago and the videos showing its true capabilities are older than that. Should have done research.

This engine spins backwards and loses much of the power it could generate...
