RECIPE (8 small tortillas or 16 tacos, 40min prep time)
-1 1/2 cup (200g) flour
-1/2 Tsp salt
-1/2 Tsp baking powder
Mix
-1/2 cup (125ml) warm water
-3-4 Tbsp oil
Mix then knead for a few minutes.
Shape in 8 or 16 balls and let them rest for 15mins.
Roll them out thinly and fry on high heat for 45sec each side.
Store in a kitchen towel to keep them soft or heat them up briefly before using.

Being an Indian who's grown up eating these for breakfast lunch and dinner every single day a tutorial made me feel weird 😂

Hi you should turn them 3 times.
First place the tortilla/roti onto a hot pan and let it change colour. This should only take 5-10 seconds, then flip and cook on the other side until it has some browning (u can lift the edge and check), then flip it for a final time and press it down with a spatula or tea towel in multiple places while rotating it flat. This will make the inside puff up and uth air so the texture is extremely soft and enjoyable. Hope it helps.

This is basically how my father made tortillas growing up! We'd make them every Sunday to eat with beans, rice and mole. Looks delicious! ^^

It's so funny, I grew up in a town with a very Mexican culture and half my family is Mexican but I didn't learn how to make tortillas until I moved to Germany, and I got the recipe from a girl from the Czech Republic 😹 and actually you don't even need the baking powder, just flour, salt, hot water and oil. I would make fresh tortillas for breakfast everyday with rice, egg, and a little bit of sauer sahne and hot sauce. I was surviving on about 5€ a week and one meal a day but I mean I could actually do it there! In the United States that would never work. Once I started working some places would have free food (mostly fruits and Musli) for the employees so the days when I would be there I would have a little more for the week. As a freelancer I wasn't eligible for any help services (and Germans are very strict with rules, I once waited in line at a church early in the morning because they gave out food to in need people but I didn't have the paperwork that qualified to receive what they were giving so they made me leave). But even so, while that experience sucked (cause it was embarrassing to be there and even more embarrassing to be turned away ) and even though I was really broke at the time im very grateful I was able to make it in my little bit of money a week and the help I did get from friends and neighbors and how safe I felt all the time their and to finally be liberated from having a car . I love you Berlin and I miss you terribly 💔

We don’t usually use flour tortillas for tacos, it’s corn. Flour tortillas are the least common in Mexico. At restaurants, street vendors, etc it’s mostly corn tortillas.

It's a staple Indian food called "Roti"served with a a bowl of veggies or any kind of curries
😄😄😄

And any average North Indian would have ROTI atleast one-two times a day 😊

For anyone needing a recipe without baking powder this is the recipe i use and its perfect:
3 cups flour
1/3 cup canola oil
1 cup warm water with 1tbs salt (mix with water)
Knead and devide to your liking, set for 20-30mins
Hot pan 20 seconds each side or whenever you think is perfect, its okay if the bubbles darken more than you think they will, its not burned!

Does a tortilla press work better, instead of rolling them out?
