This video will show you exactly how to choose the hardware for a Hackintosh build in 2021. No previous computer knowledge required! It will give you a general overview over computer hardware in general and Hackintosh requirements specifically so that you can pick the right hardware for a successful installation.

The build I show in this video is an Intel i9 9900K build geared towards music and video production on Mac OS Mojave with 32 Bit and Thunderbolt.

Ok, let me get this straight... you've shot a thousand rolls of film; you make music, you mod guitars, and NOW I find out you're a computer wizard. Lilly, you are one impressive individual! PS: loved the outtakes. You rock.

I'm really impressed with the amount of work you have put in the making of this video. The research, the script, editing.
Hats off to, Yo girl !!!

Thanks for posting this, it was very informative.

I hear people often complain about Windows crashing for various reason but I've never run into those issues unless I'm overclocking RAM or tinkering in general. I think people often do risky things with their computers, sometimes unknowingly, that make their PCs more unstable, especially when it's updating time. I've been in the dev channel of Windows Insider program for a little while now and have not experienced any major issues. I'm not Not trying to be a fanboy here - I used to be a very satisfied Linux user for almost a decade before switching back to Windows to help with testing and feedback for Windows 11. There are other reasons to chose MacOS over Windows though.

OFF-TOPIC: I took a look at your parts list and had a lol-moment when I saw the RX580. It just looked odd amongst a sea of other high-end parts like a 9900K and the NH-D15. I was puzzled for a bit but then remembered that it's probably the best option for a Hackintosh since it's used by the Mac Pro.

Also, what screensaver app are you using?

Great video, really informative. My 2017 MacBook Pro runs hot under huge compiling loads now that I’ve gotten deep into software engineering. It’s really taking a hit and there is very noticeable hardware lags at times, and runs really hot. I use a windows machine with GeForce RTX 2060 for civil and geospatial engineering purposes, works well but I will have to integrate both disciplines soon. Was thinking of going linux as well, might do a triple boot if possible. Thanks for the info!

I'm excited to watch this. I've been a Mac user since 2007. I'm still on a 2011 iMac and, let's be honest, it's old news. It still works, but I haven't had an OS update in quite a while. I don't do anything complicated on it but eventually it'll just be done. I'm not at all savvy enough to build a Hackintosh like you have, and even with the extra time I have during this ongoing lockdown, I'm not certain I have the ability to do it. But I'm going to watch anyway and see what it's all about. Here we go!

UPDATE: Yep, this is over my head. I can see spending a lot of money and then not getting it right and needing to get help with it anyway. My needs are so simple I'm probably OK with an out of the box iMac. Even a used one, anything is better than my 2011 iMac!

Very impressed, is there a different motherboard I could use instead with everything else you use the same, I was thinking of gigabyte intel 1151 z390 m gaming?
Also in the links in the description you didn’t add a power supply btw

Very interesting - I've got over 25 years in 3D animation adn moved to Blender a couple of years ago, plus I am a musician / composer / sound engineer (Oh and photographer!) this video could have been made for me! Anyway, I am sat here in front of a fresh, legit install of Windows 10 which has lost the start button and there is no fix but to reinstall - WTF?!?!? I've had enough, I want to move to Mac as I have a Mac Pro and two hackintoshes that are rock solid.
However, you say Blender doesn't work that well on macOS?!? I see a lot of people using it! Do tell more - is it just GPU drivers?

A friend of mine had a hackintosh. I found it a bit funny because when I had a Macbook from work, I reformatted it and put Ubuntu on it... sorta like an anti-hackintosh. ;)

Hi Lilly Just seen this video come up on my suggested to watch on YouTube and I did,
like to say very glad it did very good and informative you’ve kept me watching till the end, can’t wait for your build overview video👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
although I still class myself as a beginner in this Hackintosh world well Ryzentosh in my case as I have an AMD build but still very much learning.

I built mine so I could learn how Mac OS works as can’t really afford to buy a Mac and Pc together plus a Hackintosh/Ryzentosh is a much cheaper and can be a more powerful machine to have than most of the Mac’s you can buy as long as you can get it configured correctly and use as you say the right parts.
My particular build seems to work great I think 🤔 don’t think I have any issues with it that I know of.
I’m a novice music production wannabe and I use that term very lightly 🤣🤣🤣it’s just to learn as a hobby at home I like my keyboards and have gathered up a lot of VST’s over the years so just like to mess around with sounds you never know I might even learn to play one day🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anyhow Great Video looking forward to your next instalment and it looks like you have a few in your back catalog I can have a look at while I’m waiting.
Thank you once again yours waiting eagerly Malky from UK 🇬🇧

That was a great video, Lilly. Instructional or not, you put enough into the video to really give someone food for thought for making the right decisions whether to go with a hackintosh or not. My old computer I'm going to completely rebuild. The components are probably not going to work anymore, so I'll just use them as a display in a cabinet :D I'm still thinking about whether to build a Win or Linux run machine. I might dual boot, I don't know yet. However, I'll reuse the tower as it's still good but I'll have to replace the on/off switch as I think the contact has worn out. No big deal :D I like the "extras" in your computer too, as in the lighting display!! My old computer was much the same, even the various cords and connectors in it were RGB or fluoro, so it looked like a neon sign when powered up!!! :D One thing I do recommend for anyone who's building a computer is make sure your power supply has a good "bug tight" grating on the air intake for the unit. I had a small cockroach (I believe) crawl into the unit in my computer and when I went to turn it on, one day, the supply burst into flames!!! The cockroach must've chewed on the insulation between the layers in the transformer and shorted it out. So, make sure no bugs can get into it when you buy one!!!
