The number one reason I have a hackintosh is storage. I have about 16TB worth of drives on my main tower. It cost me $1700. It would cost me $6000 to get the lowest model Mac Pro so I can add storage like that to it for all of my media. I'm glad you mentioned you use a Windows PC for media, I may have to do that when I upgrade.

Hackintosh is for people who want to use macos but dont want to spend a kidney on a laptop what cant even run games

So what could a gamer that loves MacOS do? VMs are slow and I don’t know if you can dual boot something like an M1 or M2.

Unless u need like 8TB SSD storage there’s no point in a hackintosh. They’re very powerful and energy efficient for the price

I have 2 hackintosh and 9 Macs. I will be building a new hackintosh for AI gen text, ai art, VR chat.

I love my 14” Mack book M1 but I need Nvidia for Ai tools. I have StabD and Oobabooga on my M1 but I need more powerful tools

Youre taking into consideration what people need it for. For music and audio people, the gpu overpower is completely waste of money. The hackintosh still provides better value and upgradeability. This may obvs change but i just changed from a i7-7700k to i9-13900 with 128gig of ram. using an old amd 580rx running 4 screens. Wouldve spent $3000k or more i went down the mac studio route. I expect this to do the job i need it to do for next 5 years.

Yeah that's true and now with the mac mini m2 is even less convinient. $600 machine that's awesome.

Yes, a reason is that You can switch to Windows with your dualboot. You can't in m1

well if macos m1 mini cost more than 600-700 eur, i'd disagree with you, but now its as "cheap" as one "minimum powerful" hackintosh, the only reason i'm reluctant to buy it is that, the compatibility issue, but a small homelab with cheap mini pc perhaps the answer, thank you for the answer!

Well I mean there are faster x86 chipsets out there than M1, if you dont mind running an expensive threadripper setup, or some crazy multi cpu server setups. I can see a hackintosh on one of these systems being viable if you need obscene anounts of memory and a really strong cpu. I mean, if you dont mind coughing up $10k just for the cpu you can get a Threadripper Pro 7995WX and have a cpu thats a little over 400% faster than an M1 ultra in multithreaded loads, and about 20% faster at sequential workloads, while being able to have 20 times the memory, modularity, upgradability, and much greater connectivity. Practical? If youre coughing up that much money you're almost certainly a business, and youre probably using linux or windows server, so probably not, but hackintosh for peak performance isnt dead, just very expensive

Hackintosh is only worth it if you have like a whole bunch of windows PCs and you don’t feel like buying an apple computer
