thank you so much, also you can do this by changing level to (2) level then using restart numbering at previous level, then change the title to a numbering paragraph stile using none and level (1)

This is a great tip. I hate working with numbered lists in indesign. They need a more user-friendly method.

Great fix. Still it's annoying that Adobe hasn't provided some simple and intuitive way to directly do this.

Just bumped into this tut. Thanks for that! Your examples does not go beyond #9 though. When the numbers reach 2 characters, like 10; 11, and such, everything gets out of sync. Can you show how to align the numbers so the names remain on one line, when and if numbers exceed one character. Or alternatively how to align the names when the numbers exceed one character. (I prefer the first one.)

amazing.... also, who to clear for 10 e.g., dot align through the list

Is there a way to customize the number ? In one of my projects I want the numbers in my list to have this style : [1] instead of just : 1.
Is there a way to do this automatically ? Thanks

Is this possible with a nested style, not having to right click on the numbered style and choose everytime the right option?

@0.35 you say "I have to go to the menu way over..." but you already knew that the dialog will open up at the click of the Numbering button while holding the Alt key...

Apparently, no one of you is capable to explain how to create nested list...

Looks like a very bad ux design from Adobe. Why creating two styles for a numbered list. It should be accomplished with just one style. It's not intuitive. You have to come to youtube to search for a solution after wasting a lot of time trying to make it work.
