One of Norwegian Black Metal's most essential releases and a collectible black metal vinyl record is Immortal's second album “Pure Holocaust”.
It was released in 1993 in two vinyl versions about which I will talk in detail.
The blackest of black metal is frozen by ice winds and not burnt in Satanic flames. Immortal were never really involved in the religious side despite the pompous title of their debut album "Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism".
Immortal were also away from the political ideologies often associated with the Norwegian scene and for a few people they were "false".
Maybe the video for "The Call of the Wintermoon" song from their debut album also has something to do with that.
Abbath and Demonaz mostly followed their own path of grimness, evil, the heart of winter and the mystical place of Blashyrkh if I pronounced this right, where they visualized it in "Battles of the North".
"Pure Holocaust" is the relentless, cold and pure Norwegian black metal album that simplifies all the elements of the genre adding the holocaust-sound courtesy of Demonaz' guitars.
Pure Holocaust is a genre defining, and an essential black metal album. It might not carry the historical weight of some other releases or others' innovation but has its character.
It is a highly competent and enjoyable album that seems to have a significant influence amongst countless black metal acts.

Songs like Unsilent Storms in the North Abyss, The Sun No Longer Rises and Pure Holocaust are black metal masterpieces. And those of you who haven't listen to this album yet, it's time to do so.

At the record cover we have a photo of the members in charge of making the Norwegian beast roar: Abbath , Demonaz and Erik.
It must be said here that Erik appears on the cover and in the credits he is mentioned as a drummer, but it was Abbath who was in charge of the drums during the recording of the album.
The cover is Simple but iconic, which indicates something: Immortal is synonymous with black metal.
