Do you think the placebo effect could work with depression and anxiety? Specifically if it is due to brain chemical imbalance, not brought on by a traumatic event.

I wonder how much of “Alternative medicine” is actually just the placebo effect in action.

Very interesting! Could you cite the studies you reference in the video or the description? This is what can separate videos sharing legitimate scientific findings in fun, easy-to-understand ways from influencers sharing pseudoscience for likes. Also, I'd like to share these findings with my students, and I don't feel good about it unless I can at least find the abstract. Thanks!

Brains are mysterious, wonderful, and infinitely disturbing

The reason I feel the placebo doesn’t work on me is because I always expect my medication not to work

I love how he just randomly says “thein” 😂

I love the concept of placebo, giving you something that isn't actually anything but makes you actually feel something

The only thing I’ve ever learned from my step-dad… pain is all in your head.. taught myself to dissociate and blank/zone out mentally.
Well most of it, emotional pain can be shut down temporarily, hence why some people feel numb when they’re sad. Low level pains can be distracted from or hopefully slept off, and extremely traumatic injury can cause shock and increased adrenaline to the brain leading to the pain often going unnoticed.

Mind over body, as the saying goes. So many illnesses can be temporarily relieved simply by believing that the treatment works

What’s even more amazing is that it had been studied that even when some people know they are receiving a placebo, they still get benefits from it! It’s like the ritual itself is half of the effect!

Placebo is essentially mind over body. The mind is a powerful thing and it's fascinating.

If there ever Was a title that will be misunderstood. It's gotta be this one

Ehhhh, all I remembered about anatomy and physiology is that there is a metal component to almost all body functions. You can literally go through all major organs and if you expect X, Y, or Z, then that organ will function differently. Like, if you expect to eat, a signal is sent to your stomach to make acid and your salivary glands to make saliva. Did you know that even if you tell people up front, this is a placebo, it Still Works!!

Speaking as someone who practiced as a nurse for many years, *if the placebo effect wasn’t a true phenomena, we wouldn’t have a pharmacological industry.* You would be amazed at how often the placebo effect is as effective or more effective than actual treatment. I’ve seen some amazing things 😳😮

Isn't the title super miss leading ?

Another study sent medicine to a bunch of people, one was real and one didn’t do anything. Both of the pills worked the same for the people it was sent to because they expected it to

Imagine making a clickbait title on an effect that has been discovered over 200 years ago. Good job guys, amazing content as always!
